Update from UK visitors & Storage Phoenix
« on: November 17, 2009, 12:48:05 PM »
Some of you may remember my postings about 12 months ago looking for advice for our 3 month trip. Well we made it and have spent a very enjoyable last 2 months touring parts of California and Utah seeing many of the places suggested. We purchased a 33' Winnebago Chiefton which has suited our needs beautifully. Our flights home mid December are from San Francisco and originally we were going to store in the Sacramento area until our return next spring when we move the RV to friends in Texas.
However we are currently enjoying the sun in the Phoenix area and it occured to us that it may be better to enjoy more time here in the south and store here, then we can fly into Phoenix next year.
I have searched the forum but can find no recent posts with recommendations for storage in the phoenix area. Where do all you guys store yours? Am I right in thinking we won't have to worry about freezing and as it is winter the sun won't be too hot?
Any advice would be great to help us decide. In Sacramento we were looking at Indoor Storage but would that be necessary in Phoenix?
Thanks
julie

I'm not familiar with RV storage areas in Phoenix, although there should be plenty.  As long as you're not going to be leaving it there during the heat of the summer, indoor storage is not necessary.

The climate of Southern Arizona is favorable enough for storage that the US Air Force uses Davis Monthan AFB near Tucson as the dead storage locale for its surplus aircraft.  See:

To find about storage in Phoenix, just Google rv storage phoenix  Look for storage on concrete -- this will cut down on the crawly critters.  Try to get electricity so you can keep your batteries charged.   An excellent alternative to that is solar power on your rig.  Phoenix has lots of RV solar vendors.

Seal off your heater, refrigerator, and water heater vents to keep out the spiders.   Leave a ceiling vent cracked open to allow some air circulation.   Tho Phoenix is arid, the winter brings rainstorms.

Thanks for the input so far...
Carl - I just took time out from searching for storage to follow your link about the planes. Very interesting and the satelite image on google maps is amazing - so many planes!!!
Never seen anything like it.

It also depends on what part of the Phoenix area you want to keep the RV. Russ gave you 2 good suggestions for the West Valley. Many RV parks in the East Valley (Mesa, Apache Junction) have storage also. Can't say which but many do.

Phoenix's Sky Harbor airport is location friendly to the east valley (Tempe, Mesa, Chandler)  We use

A Secured Vehicle Storage
Country Club & Guadalupe
Mesa, AZ 85201
480-926-1482

They have at least 3 locations with both covered and uncovered.  If you can get into the one we use we could look at it when we check on our unit but I am sure you could find cheaper places.   They do have 110 power, at least for the covered spaces.

Good luck and let us know what you find.
