Does anyone know of how to acquire a list of ER pet clinics located throughout the U.S.? Maybe a website that lists them? I know there is an ER Pet book that I believe contains a list but it would probably be hard to remain current.

Unfortunately our furry canine girl Forest has been diagnosed with Epilepsy so we have to stay in the know while on the road.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Our hairy kid also has epilepsy. Our vet gave us valium to us if he should have more than one seizure in a row. He hasn't in the last year. We have friends who have their epileptic doggies on meds and they are doing wonderfully well.

As for vet ERs, we always try to take a look-see for nearby vets. When we lost our last labrador, we had to drive 120 miles to the nearest ER on a Sunday and $4000 later, we had to have him put to sleep. The ER was great but very, very expensive. Now, when we get parked somewhere, I always use the internet to find close by vets....just in case....using google and the closest town.

Thanks Wendy, sorry to hear that Gordan has seizures as well. Forest is on seizure meds but still adjusting to get control of the seizures. Really sorry to hear about your last lab and that experience also  :'( , that's just too sad. I will have to hit up our vet for the Valium before hitting the road, thx.

taoshum, accordding to what I was told you cannot use 911 for pet emergencies.

I did have another source provide me with these links if anyone is interested;
http://www.vetlocator.com/hotline.php
http://www.yext.com/vets/ - this one seemed more accurate for our zip code.

Thanks and happy travels

Most local Vet offices will give an emergency after hours number for the nearest Emergency Vet Clinic only open nights & weekends.
Another option is to call the local law enforcement non emergency number. The Emergency Vet Clinics I know of are responsible for Police Canine so dispatchers are familiar with them.

I can recommend this website.
It gives you access to it's database for $1.95 for a 5 day trial or $14.95 per year.
It's worth it if you only use it's resources once.

We have had one occasion where we needed a Vet in a hurry. The campground where we were staying knew of an all night emergency Vet in the area. If in doubt I would ask when checking in at a campground if there is such a facility close by. Might not work all the time but it won't hurt to ask.

Great ideas and website. Things I didn't think of and will use. Thanks so much for the ideas.

I've always wondered if 911 would work for an animal emergency... maybe someone knows?

It might be different in other places but here in Ky you would be told that 911 is not to be used to find a vet and any additional calls would subject you to a KSP knocking on your door to site you.

I just saw an article in Trailer Life magazine suggesting people buy this book of pet ER locations around the country. Handy if you don't have Internet access. Here is a link to it:

Might not be a bad thing to have on hand. I don't see a publication date and wonder how quickly info goes out of date? I still prefer my internet access but this might be handy while waiting for the dish to go up.
