In disconnecting the cabling to the RV auxiliary batteries (to clean) I must have reconnected them wrongly because I cannot start the generator. It will not turn over. Could I have reversed the + or - cables to the battery posts? I am afraid to try reversing it it might damage something. How else can I check it?

Chances are, you just didn't get the cable connections tight enough.  Does anything else NOT work? No smoke or fire?

Also, since the battery disconnect solenoids are generally mechanical latch type solenoids/relays, it's possible they are confused after losing power when you physically disconnected the battery.  Try cycling them on and off.
