This message is actually research for my parents who are looking to buy a pop-up camper.
We are unsure of what brand to go with for starters.
my parents are looking for the following:
- sleeps about 8 comfortably
- option for AC, I believe they all do.
- has built in furnace, seems they all do
- no bathroom needed, more of a "sleeper" camper

I once owned a Starcraft Venture 1706. I loved this trailer as it was the first camper I ever bought and owned.
Much to my disappointment the trailer leaked through the 2 piece seamed roof for a good couple of years before I realized what was happening, and by this point the damage was done. I sold the pop=up for a measly $1000 at 6 years old.

SO - that being said, is a solid, one piece fiberglass roof better than a seamed roof? Are there down sides?
One thing that y parents were told today by a Coleman salesman was that only the larger pop-up campers come with a fiberglass roof, and the smaller ones are all the seamed roofs. I think this is untrue, but I really am not sure.

For any advice that anybody could provide into making this decision would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you in advance.

Not too sure, but i suspect that there is only one or two manufacturers left.
Whoever bought Coleman name and Forest River I believe is still in that business.
Are they looking for new or used?  What is their TV as that could play a role in the decision process.

by TV I assume you mean towing capacity?
They have a Suburban and also use of my Dodge Dakota V8 so weight shouldn't be an issue for them. And I do believe they are looking for one on the larger side.
There are still many brands available, such as Fleetwood(who bought Coleman), Starcraft, Palomino, Forrest River, and then some more too that I can't remember. So the choices are out there, the problem is which brand is the better brand?
It looks like no one trailer brand shines above any other, at least when it comes to pop-ups.

We owned a 2003 Rockwood (Forest River) from 2003 - 2004 and love it. Model 2417 I think? Had capacity to sleep 8, although it would be REALLY full with that many people in there! We loved it - had a GVWR of about 3,500 lbs. I towed it with a 1/2 ton pickup so it towed easy but it was a bit tongue-heavy. The dinette was a mini-slide which helped to open it up a bit in side. End beds had heated mattresses - I did not care for them but the wife loved them! Lots of storage, no potty or shower, front "garage" compartment. Hot water and A/C were available but we bought from the dealer stock and this unit did not have them. It did have a one-piece roof cap. They called it "Filon" material or something like that.  I would recommend taking a good look a the Rockwoods - hopefully, they are still built this nicely.
