Good Morning All You World Travelers. My wife and I are planning our trip to Seattle from Chicago and our 2 week Alaskan cruise/land trip beginning July 31st. We're also considering our return trip and we would appreciate suggestions from those who've traveled west.
Our tentative plan is to leave the Chicago area on July 15th and travel Route 90 across. Our first stop will be in Minnesota, the 2nd will be in South Dakota ( no CornPalace). The 3rd night we'll be in the Badlands and plan to spend 2 nights there with the Monument and a side trip to Custer. Next we'll be somewhere around Cody Wyoming but  probably not in Cody. We've been to the Museum and rodeo years ago and don't plan on seeing it again unless there is a real reason to. Next will be West Yellowstone Montana if we can get a site with the park campgrounds being closed. After several days in the Yellowstone area, we'll head to CouerdeLane Idaho for 2 or 3 days days to see family and then on to Seattle. We need to find a campground that we can stay at for one day in the Seattle area and then store the 5er for 2 weeks. Suggestions would be appreciated.
Following our cruise, we plan on picking up the 5er and our truck and head to Banff for several days. I'd like to come back the AlCan highway but no nothing about it and need advice.

Would appreciate and comments or suggestions as we look forward to crossing another item off our bucket list.

My first suggestion would be to enjoy the trip, get off the Interstate. If you haven't spent any time in La Crosse, WI, try Petibone RV Park. It is right on the Mississippi River, well located for driving the Great River Route. In the Minneapolis area, we stay at the Dakota Meadows CG in Shakopee. Nice Native American Casino run CG well located. From there I would go to Itasca State Park, the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Then head west on US 2, this will bring you past Wall Drugs  :D Lots of places to stop and see on the way west, don't get tied down to any schedule except your arrival date in Seattle. Can't help you there.

Sounds like you have a great trip planned.  We've been on Trans can 1 from Ontario west to Vancover, BC.  Baniff is beautiful.  But of all the things you do, do  not miss the "Icefield" parkway (highway 93 through the Canadian Rockies) which goes from Baniff to Jasper.  It is breathtaking.

Marsha~
