Hello all,

I've got a question about towing that I'm pretty sure has been asked already.

My wife and I are considering buying a TT, particularly a Jayco Jayflight 28RLS, which has the following specs:

Unloaded Vehicle Weight (lbs.) 6245
Gross Vehicle Weight (lbs.) 8500
Cargo Carrying Capacity (lbs.) 2075
Dry Hitch Weight (lbs.) 725
Measurements
Exterior Length 30' 2"
Exterior Height with A/C 134"
Bedroom Interior Height 81"
Tank Capacities
Fresh Water Capacity (gals.) includes water heater 46.2
Gray Wastewater Capacity (gals.) 32.5
Toilet/Black Wastewater Capacity 32.2
Other
Sleeping Capacity 4-6

Could I tow this TT with my 2002 Mercury Mountaineer...its a 4.6l SOHC, All Wheel Drive model.

Thanks for any feedback,
Jack

Well, without even looking at the specs for the Mountaineer, I can say, no way.  I mean, it will probably pull it, but it will not do so very well.  That is just way too much trailer for that vehicle.  If you look at the towing capacities for the Mountaineer, it's tow limit is 7060 pounds, with a class II tow package and a class IV load equalizing hitch and 3.73 gear.  So you're already 245 pounds over your limit, with nothing in the vehicle or trailer.  You need to downsize your trailer, or upsize your tow vehicle.  Check out the Trailer Life tow ratings at http://www.trailerlife.com/output.cfm?id=42175
