I have a 12v fresh water pump that keeps running and running I checked the entire system for leaks and found none.  I would think with a 2.8 gallon a min pump I would have water running out of someplace and pump the 20 gal tanks empty within a half hour.  I turn on on the faucet and the pump kicks up a notch but then slows down when I turn it off.

How possible is it the check ball in the pump is worn or possibly stuck.  Its a Surflo 2.8 and who knows probably as old as the RV 1988.

Is there a way to take it apart and check the ball.

They come apart easily, but you wont find a "check ball", most are just three or four chambers that pump when rotating, they can be cleaned and so forth. You may find it has been frozen and damaged.>>>Dan

OK I will take it apart when I get time.    I also seen a service kit for it but for the extra 30$ why.

The service kit is usually "replace the pump head" and keep the motor.

If you have the ability to fill the fresh tank form the city water inlet, the pump will run continuously if the city fill valve is mistakenly left open. You are pumping water out of the tank and right back into it via the fill valve.

It could be running trying to fill your hot water heater if it's empty if so open your hot water faucets to purge it. It does take some time doing it with your water pump. Hope this helps...........    Jim

There is a spring loaded flat rubber washer in there that is after the 3 lobe pumping chamber that functions as a check.  check it for damage or wear.  sometimes they take a 'set' and get a groove in them where they compress against the hard plastic seat.  you can flip the rubber disk around 180* and get some more use (maybe).  Usually if the check leaks it will cause the pump to fast cycle, not run continuous.

I'm thinking Gary pegged your real problem.

Well with 65 hour work weeks I don't have much time to take it apart so I just ordered a new one its the original 1988 pump and I am sure its weak anyway.  I want to use it this weekend so I just want to get it put it in and work.  I am not one for having good luck but I have my fingers crossed.

One more question when ordering I seen there is accumulator tank that you can buy, how would this benifit me if at all?

Where does the accumulator go?  next to the pump?  Inline?  I have zero room around the pump.

I also have a fresh water inlet on its own, no valve that I know of from the city water hose connection to fill tanks.

I forgot to thank everyone for the trouble shooting tips and information I tried everything real quick and it still runs.  I did get time to look on the pump and the manufacture date is 4/88.  That one did very well its time to move on.

Ok I got my new Shurflow pump in the mail finally and installed it today and it works great.  I noticed that his pump is quieter and runs less than my old one which was probably on the way out since I owned the MH.  My old one would run for up to 30 seconds after I would turn the water off to build pressure in the system, were this one runs for only seconds after the water is turned off if that.  I know what is meant about cycling as it starts and stops as the water is flowing and causes it to slightly pulse as I noticed as I was running water in the shower while trying it out.

I pulled the old pump apart and everything looked good and clean but I did find this on one of the seals which could of caused it to loose pressure.  What do you think?  I was thinking of maybe getting a new top end and using it as a back up.

If you can feel the valves and they are slippery, wash them in a bleach solution and they will be good as new.  Whatever it is, a good cleaning should be all that is necessary to make it work fine.
