8/18 Mill casino CG, Coos Bay, OR
Departed John Day Dam on Columbia river Monday morning, saying goodbye to the Brewers. Came downriver 125 miles to the S of Portland and got a site at Pheasant Ridge CG in Wilsonville. It is a large nice Cg on a hill 1/2 mile off I-5 with too many trees. Lucked out and got an internet satellite signal on the first try.

The Apple store is only 5 miles away. They had stock and I "only" had to wait in a 15 person line to get an iPhone 4!

Portland temp was in the high 90s, so headed out for the Oregon coast Tues morning. Coos Bay temp has a high in the 60s and for the first time in months I got rained on. Lucked out at the Mill casino CG, getting site 27, harborside, with the best view of the ship traffic on the river. I will be here 3-5 days
Then up to Winchester Bay for the next week 8/22-28
Sutherlin for last 3 days of August
Newport marina CG all of Sept
Oct will be a slow drive down coast and transit of Calif.
Plan to arrive Happy Trails on 11/1.

Have a good trip, Russ, and enjoy the fall. Guess we won't see you during our annual service at OMC in Eugene next month. Do you recommend Pheasant Ridge CG? The proximity to the Apple Store sounds inviting as well as dangerous!

Russ,

We are on our way back to Phoenix, but hope to leave 9/4 or 9/11 for another trip. If I can get some work done in Oregon and if we can take another three weeks we will head back to Oregon. I sure we will spend some of the time on the coast.

Have fun.

Enjoy, the weather should be nice up there, cool and breezy.

Pheasant Ridge CG is good and friendly, but you have to deal with trees. It is far enough off the freeway to be quiet. Starbucks and Costco across the street.

Yes Apple store is dangerous to your wallet. I got out with only the iPhone and a freestanding trackpad.

We usually stop a little south of Watsonville where Pheasant Ridge is located.  There is a Factory store Mall there and the RV park is adjacent to the Mall.  Don't remember the town or exit number.  The park is tight, clean and satellite friendly and a nice place to stop.  Few amenities  but it works for us.

That would be Woodburn. The flaw of that CG is the distance to the Apple store is too far!

CRS strikes again!!  Not being an Applite, I have no desire to visit.  Now if I were to win an Ipad, I'm sure things would change.

For that matter is is too far to Camping World too!!

"Don't forget Fry's is just up the road also."

I toured the town and found it to huddled along I-5.  The countryside beyond is delightful. On the way home, I toured the downtown area which turns out to include Fry's. Saved money by not going in!

8/21. Finishing up visit to Coos Bay. Mill casino CG is sat friendly and has adequate free wifi. I left at the right time as they were setting up a parking lot for a music show that I am sure I would have hated!

DID 2 nights at oceanside CG on Cape Arago road. It is mostly sat friendly. They have tengo wifi. Jim and Judy Beal (of HT)found me and we had a nice visit. Leaving in the morning for Winchester Bay.

Jim,

I wasn't either until I got one. Try it, you just might like it.:)

Am now at Winchester Bay. Sunny, breezy, 62-68F. While in Reedsport, 3 miles inland, it was 85Ftoday.

Here are belated pictures from last few months.

Celcius?

Nice pictures of the elk herd, Russ.  Also liked the shot of sunset over the oyster beds.  You've brought another heat wave our way, but by the time you reach Sutherlin next week we should be back to cool and maybe even sprinkly.  The park has been full again, lately, but we'll do our best to get you a spot.

9/5 I am settled in at Newport marina RV park. Had lunch yesterday without he Kleinsmiths who are volunteering at the harbor mouth lighthouse for the next 2 months.

Today, saw a green flash along the top of a fog bank just before sunset. Tried for a picture, without success. Then a bit later saw the space station pass overhead. First pass was long and started , lost in twilight and went a long way to the NE. 90 min later the pass was short at 2 minutes and steeply rising from NW to NNW.
The next few days will have more double viewings in the evening. I use this website: http://www.heavens-above.com

We've had good ISS viewing here in Apple Valley, MN, for over a week and will for at least the next week.  Most nights offered 2 visible passes.  I don't recall any place or time where it was viewable for so many consecutive nights.
