Batteries in 1,500 notebooks sold in Canada between Oct. 5, 2004 and Oct. 13, 2005 could overheat and pose a fire risk, said Dell. There have been three reports of batteries overheating in the U.S., but no injuries have resulted.? It is not clear if notebooks sold in the U.S. are involved, so check the details on the official recall site.
The batteries were sold with the following laptop computers:
Latitude D410, D505, D510, D600, D610, D800, D810.
Inspiron 510M, 600M, 6000, 8600, 9200, 9300, XPS Gen 2.
Dell Precision M20 and M70 mobile workstations.
"The batteries were also sold separately, including as secondary batteries and in response to service calls," said a news release on the Texas-based company's website.
The batteries, which have the words "DELL" and "Made in Japan" on the back, insert into a battery bay on the underside of the laptop.
Only the batteries are recalled, and not the computers. Customers can still use their computers with their power cords, said Dell.
Customers should stop using the battery and contact Dell at 1-866-342-0011 or at www.dellbatteryprogram.com.
