The next time you are near the directory could you get the name of the campground in Plainfield for us? We would love to be closer to our kids when we visit.

Jeff

If you do find something in Plainfield or closer, please let us know. My 50th college Reunion is next June and the possible sites on campus (UofC, Hyde Park) don't work. Had a hard time getting in and out at my 40th. We're thinking if we could find something within about 45 minutes, we'll just commute daily.

I saw the reviews for "Hide a Way Lakes Campground in Yorkville" it would be low on my list.

As I mentioned before, I like Fish Lake Beach Resort in Volo. It is about 50 miles north of downtown Chicago. We are there now and will be here for about 3 weeks.

Our son lives in Lincolnshire which is about 15 miles from the CG. We have been staying here each year for about 10 years. We stayed at another once but it is gone and replaced with Condos.

Wayne:

We spent a month at Hideaway six years ago and it was one of the worst camping experiences of 35 years of RVing! Sue went for a walk one morning and came running back because of some of the occupants back in the rear of the cg. We were settled on the edge of a large wooded area that got turned into a heavy metal concert with the band about five feet from the reat of our m/h.

Every time there was a problem whoever went to the office was told to call the Yorkville police.

When I parked I questioned the wisdom of parking a heavy m/h on what appeared to be like rutted grass but was assured it would be fine. Two weeks later it rained for a week and the jack pads I had down went out of sight. It took the remains of a half dozen picnic tables to create a platform to get out.

It is the closet cg to our kids but we have never been back.

The reviews for the campground I read, all said about the same thing you did except using different words. Don't think I will be going there.

We stayed at the Empress Casino in Joliett for one night last month. The approach is through an industrial area, which had us a little worried, but once at the casino, found it to be very nice.  The RV park was part of a recent renovation.  It was well maintained and quiet.  The sites have water and 50 amp service.  The park has a dump station.  $33 with tax.

The Empress is always our second choice but with no sewer, and IIRC a seven day limit, and being another 5 miles away it doesn't quite fit our plans as well.

We had been thinking about staying at the Empress during my college reunion and since it is only a long weekend, shouldn't have a problem with hook ups. Were hoping for something closer to Hyde Park to cut down on the commuting.

Heck Bernie some of the streets around UofC aren't even car friendly!
They leveled the home I lived in as a kid at 57th and Kenwood.

Lots of Chicago is like that. We grew up on the north side and the building that I lived in until we got married was torn down many years ago.

Ken, a year or so ago, I tried to visit my old house on Yates Ave., near 97th & Stoney Park, and some of the neighborhood residents almost levelled ME!  I think Barak must have missed this neighborhood...........

This may be too late for your October trip, but we recently stayed at the Burnidge Forest Preserve/ Paul Wolff Campground in Elgin, IL about 40 miles northwest of Chicago. It's a beautiful campground with 50 amp service and water spigots scattered that you can hook up to if it's not too busy. I'm pretty sure they stay open until October 31. The sites are very large, paved, level and quiet. There are hiking trails. Good cell service. 2 convenient dump stations. I believe it's $25.00 per night.
