Today the group split in three... those that stayed home & rested, the "Leaf Peepers-Flower Children" who looked for flowers & the "Manly Men & Women" who went 4-wheeling to Inyo Mine & conquered the treacherous Echo Pass.

The Flower Children had a fabulous time. At lunchtime, we sat in the sunshine with no wind and no bugs, looking up at snow-covered Telescope Peak 11,049 + feet above us. Don nearly fell asleep. And we found REAL flowers, not those dead things the "Manly" group found. We have pictures of Desert Gold, Cryptantha, Brown-Eyed Evening Primose, and DESERT FIVE SPOT. Of course, it took one of the Manly Flower Children to find the 5-Spot but we have pictures to prove that we found flowers. Now if I can just figure out how to get those pictures from my camera to my computer, I'll post some and the other Flower Children will post some spectacular pics, too.

Ron, it's not going to be a 100-year bloom but there are a lot of little green things growing up out of the ground at Ashford Mills and even here in Sunset Campground.

Sunset from Sunset Campground this evening was beautiful although not as spectacular as last evening.

Life is good.

Dear Flower Children:  Now, don't tell Manly and his followers, but we probably would have followed in your aesthetic floral appreciatory footsteps.  (I'm not even going to ask the spell checker what he thinks about that!).

As a result of all these pictures and stories, I have to add Death Valley to our trip list next year. These kinds of stories are the RV'ers equivalent of crack cocaine!

The Manly Men and Woman group had such an exciting time we had to take VIDEOS of our exciting adventure. And on top of that, the Manly Men and Women actually know how to get those videos out of the camera and onto the Internet. They will be posted as soon as I find an Internet connection with some hair around it.

WOW, Terry!  I think you had maximum suspension articulation at work there.  Looked like a FUN ride, but I noticed Betty was directing, not riding in the co-pilot seat.  BAWK, BAWK, BAWK, BAWK!

Hey Frank,
I was NOT a chicken.  I found this run and told him where to go.  It is after all MY year to plan  what we do.  I was his spotter all the others were just paparazzi.  And just FYI there was no way I was going to be riding in that vehicle over that  particular terraine.  So maybe just a little  bawk. ;)
Can't wait for Moab.

Death Valley should be on everyone'.s Bucket List.

As for Bawk Betty, I bet she'll be riding while someone else plays spotter on the next DV Rally.

2 rigs left Sunset for points north and landed at Mesquite Campground, much more remote and peaceful than Sunset. Terry and Betty drove up and had lunch at Ray and Liza's picnic table (Yes, we have picnic tables, as well as fire rings and barbecues).  Mike and Wendy entertained them during their lunch, while we tried to level our coach. [Note to self - always first at a campground to be able to laugh at those who follow setting up.] After lunch, we headed to Scotty's Castle where we had an outstanding tour of the house followed by a very nice tour of the underground.

Looking forward to seeing more of the group up here tomorrow. Ray and Wendy found 3 pieces of firewood so we can have a 5 minute campfire.

The fun continues......

Hi, This is Cindy, using Carl's login.  We made it home in record time on Friday but, as we left Death Valley, both of us said we should have stayed one more day.  Now I am thinking one more week.  My pictures could not compare with Lorna's but, if you are interested in reliving last Wednesday afternoon and the Thursday trip to Rhyolite and Titus Canyon, take a look at my Death Valley Picasa album: https://picasaweb.google.com/clundqui/2011_02_04#  Carl is still working on his pictures (but don't hold your breath).  We had such a wonderful time I know we will be reliving this trip for some time to come.  Wish we could come to Moab but that is not likely.  We'll have to be content with reading about your adventures on the Forum for a while.  Thanks to all for a wonderful visit to Death Valley.  Let us know if you plan to come to LA.    Cindy

Well I must hurry and post this message before Ned and Lorna leave as they have the  internet connection we have been using.  Lucky parking for us. Jim and Tarry left for  Mesquite Campground as did Don and Peg.  Lou has not yet stirred this morning. Tom S went to  breakfast with Ned and Lorna. Terry and I will  go to the local highlights today with Jerry and Ardra. And anyone else who want to join us.  So if you don't hear from us for a while it's becaue we are out of  the range of the internet.  Oh pooo.
We plan to go to the Race Track tomorrow.

Lou has not yet stirred this morning. .

Memories, memories!  When Lou was driving the famous Le Trashcan at Quartzsite, all of us compulsive mother types would worry about him and eventually knock on his door to make sure he was OK.  (Thanks, Ma  ::) )

Last day of our Death Valley Rally. I promised you nearly perfect weather and I think I did a pretty good job delivering. Ok, some wind, some cold temps, some warm temps but no rain, beautiful blue skies nearly every day and some spectacular sunsets.

Today, 9 intrepid souls headed out to The Racetrack, 27 miles of washboardy dirt road. But the reward was visiting The Racetrack, the Grandstand and seeing the moving rocks. Ok, so none of the rocks moved while we were there but we saw the rocks and we saw the trails. We also stopped at Teakettle Junction where there are way more teakettles than I remember. Teakettle Junction is kind of like a shoe-tree, only better. Mike and I hung Mom's teakettle. We were going to take it out there 2 years ago with Mom and Dad but didn't make it out there so on this trip, we hung the teakettle with their names on it "For a Good Time, Call Bud & Dixie at 941-xxx-xxxx".

Pictures to follow by those photographically talented.

OK, you leave their number out on some post and xxx it out here?

Glad you guys have had continued good weather.  Been pretty nice here since we returned, although we did get a dusting of snow last night.  Today was blue skies and 40 deg to melt a lot of it away.

Yesterday Ned and I left Death Valley and on our way out we stopped at Zabriskie Point and joined Fitzgeralds, Brewers, and Seilerbird to spend a few more minutes together.  Death Valley rally was a big success and as Wendy promised the weather was outstanding.  Here are a few pictures taken at Zabriskie Point.

As you can tell from all the posts there is much to see and do in Death Valley.  The terrain is varied and you can go from 285 feet below sea level at Badwater Basin to snow at the Charcoal Kilns on the way to Telescope Peak.  The many different colored layers is awesome.  There are beautiful sand dunes there, too.  Again thanks to Wendy and Mike for being our guides with lots of good information.  It is much more enjoyable when you can do this with good friends.
