Next year I hope more of you will take one of my Hospital Procedure masks and USE it because the dust CAN be a problem especially when walking down the road.  The dust can make you feel sick.  I have always wondered if some folks feel embarrassed wearing a Surgical mask in public.

I will have them with me at Death Valley.

Thanks I will take you up on that.  Where will you be staying at the weekend of the 5th. ?
I will probably be staying at Sunset where everyone else will be. See you then.

OK, a bunch of you are feeling sick and heading to DEATH Valley?  Strange bunch we are!

Terry and Tarry, hope you both feel better soon.

Jerry, thought you had a pretty good idea when I saw you walking.  Many of our visitors from Japan come in wearing them as well.  Guides tell me they usually have a cold they don't want to spread.  4 months at Q 2 years ago had my sneezing desert dust for a couple weeks!  So you have the idea, especially on the road walks.

Terry and Betty arrived this afternoon and Terry is healthy again.  Tarry is better as well.  However, high winds in the forecast have made the decision for us to remain another day in Pahrump.

If you walk around Tokyo and other big cities in Japan, you'll see lots of Japanese folks wearing them. Methinks it has little to do with them not wanting to spread colds.

The winds kept me in Parker most of the day, I should be arriving in Pahrump later tonight.  Will probably boondock at Terrible's downtown casino or elsewhere.

Are people heading over to Sunset tomorrow (Feb 2) or should I plan on checking into the Terrible's Lakeside park?

Hey Lou, the winds kept us in Pahrump. We're all heading out in the morning (some earlier than others) and will arrive at Sunset campground a couple of hours after we leave here. You can watch for some of us going by and join the train or just find us at Sunset. Shoot, you might even get there before we do. Mike and I usually get an early start .... like around 10 am :)  If it looks like Sunset if going to fill up, save us a spot  ;D

See you tomorrow
Wendy

We drove to the Canyon today and the wind was pretty strong.  West wind and on the north road I had a constant 5 deg correction in the steering wheel.  Was glad to get parked.

Be safe out there!

Lou

As long as the weather cooperates to a reasonable degree, we'll be heading to Sunset Wednesday morning. Look forward to seeing you there.

Wish we had left Dallas.  It was about 14 degrees last night with wind chill below zero.  It is supposed to get to 10 degrees tonight.  Ice everywhere and just plain lousy.  Enjoy yourselves.  We plan to be out there later this month.

I think it was not much higher in Baker, CA where I spent last night, Ron.  And with winds blowing 30-50 MPH it was plenty cold enough for me!

At 10 AM while I was driving here the radio said it was 28 degrees in Las Vegas.

I won't torture you with what the weather's like here in Death Valley this afternoon, though.  :)

We have all arrived in beautiful Death Valley. The skies are clear, there's no wind blowing, Bad news is that the low tonight is supposed to be down around 32....brrrrrr. Once we all arrived (all 11 rigs, including Carl L and Cindy who are nicely encounced in a hotel room with hot water and electricity !!), we couldn't just sit, so off we went to Badwater (there's actually water out there !!!), Devil's Golfcourse (Mike and Bernie found the sink hole and a whole bunch of Forumites follwed them out across the rough, salt-encrusted plain), then Artist's Drive. Unfortunately, we diddled around too much at Badwater and Devil's Golfcourse and missed the best lighting in Artist's Drive/Palette so we'll just have to go back another afternoon.

I suspect that pictures will follow after the big photogs get back from eating liver and onions (ick) at the Furnace Creek Cafe.

It's almost embarrassing to be here with this splendid weather when the eastern 2/3 of the country are suffering with wind and snow......ALMOST embarrassing, but we'll suffer through.

Wish you were all here. More to follow.

p.s. Getting 5 bars on my Verizon "Extended Plan"...life is good

Plans were made to hit Titus Canyon in Morning leaving at 9 am sharp.  Bring lunch and chairs.
Loved today and dinner and the gift shop and the weather and the company. LIfe is so good.

Betty

Until the better photogs show up, here's a couple pictures today taken with my Droid.

Not bad, Ned ... not bad at all !!!  Is Lorna taking any photos?  After following her around the desert taking photos of the desert in bloom, I'm one of her photo-groupie fans.  :)

The group off in the distance in the Devil's Golf Course pic were looking for a sink hole. I believe they found it, led expertly to the site by Bernie and Mike. I stayed on the nice hard, even surface of the parking lot and watched.
