I thought the same thing, but please don't categorize the rest of upstate ny by this article. Most of us are fairly normal 
Warren County really isnt upstate NY unless you are from New York City. Being from upstate NY I concinder anything north of Watertown/Fort Drum to be upstate. Albany, Utica, and Syracuse is more midstate. Really really upstate is Malone and Platsburg.

Considering I live in the foothills of the Catskills ( about 4 miles to the nearest store) that anything north is pretty much upstate.
