Quartzsite 06 ARRIVALS
« on: January 15, 2006, 10:23:47 PM »
Hello everyone:

Wanted to let you know that I have started updating the RV Forum Quartzsite 06 page to note the arrival of those on the sign up list -- or add names to the list that are not already there. Will check the thread that Jeannine started upon their arrival for new arrivals each day to make sure I have eveyone listed. Am placing a red ARRIVED note by each name as they show.

If anyone notes an arrival that didn't post to that thread -- please let me know if possible.

Unfortunately, I was not able to get there early as I have in past years. I ran into one of those, "something came up . . ." thingys -- so will be a bit late this time. I hope to arrive by next weekend.

If someone parks in the neat site with the fire ring I built over the past 3 last years -- that's OK. Just be aware that that's the site that gets the most wind, it seems to rain there more than anywhere else, the Rangers check the coach sticker on that site at least twice a day, ATV's use it as a short cut, and finally, is the only site that has reported attacks by rattle snakes. Other than that, it's a great site.  :)

QUARTZSITE 06 ARRIVALS/ATTENDEE LIST, check this site . . .

Bob,

You forgot to mention the Fire ant, scorpion, and Javelina infestation or the radiation hazard from the plutonium-laden fire ring rocks! ;D

See you tomorrow!

Bernie,

Maybe you could put a reserved for Robert Buchanan sign at the famous fire ring site.
It would be a nice gesture!

Hi Bob,

Arrived yesterday afternoon. We decided to auction off your space, so you'd better get here soon!

We're (finally) pulling up stakes and heading out this morning. Should arrive sometime tomorrow or maybe Thursday. Hoped to leave Sunday, but didn't make it. Figured that Monday would work, but then remembered I hadn't stopped the mail and Monday was a holiday.

I'm not done with my long list of TBDs, but Chris wants to get out of Dodge before the next storm comes in later today.

Oh no . . . . !!!!! Guess I had best get on the road.  :)

Please keep me posted on arrivals so I can keep the web page up to date until I can be there myself.

Current plan is to leave in the AM (Wednesday) -- and hopefully arrive by Friday. Taking the rig in today for oil change and such and to get it travel ready.

Jerry, Bernie, Jeff -- thanks for the thoughts on keeping my space open. I appreciate that . . .

Yep -- looks like still another storm coming in. I think I will head south after getting the rig serviced -- hopefully get as far as Santa Nella. Will stay at the San Luis RV Resort tonight and make Majove tomorrow, and QZ on Thursday. Of course, I never know how far I can get each day . . .

Will post along the way.

Shirley and I are in cold Albuquerque and will have dinner this evening with Bob, Bev and Jane.  We will head over to Show Low, AZ tomorrow with a stop and the Large Antenna Array.  I will attempt some photography on Thursday in the Salt River Canyon.  We plan to head out on Friday for Phoenix to dump and get water.  Then on to QZ.  Might spend Friday night in Phoenix and come down on Saturday.

Of course, I never know how far I can get each day.

Same here Bob. We got a late start (after 11.00am), but we're finally on the freeway headed south. We'll probably make it to Bakersfield today.

A couple of changes to your list, based on a combination of email and phone call:

Al & Judy Griefer can't make it.

Dave & Lisa Heller will join us for a few days, probably arriving on this coming weekend. (They'll call and, if we're in QZ, they'll come. If not, they'll keep going).

BTW where will you be getting the rig serviced?

Jim an Tarry Johnson arrived today. Bernie set up a barricade for YOUR space, so you don't have to worry.

Maybe Bernie will save the site next to the one I had last year. Maybe Smokey will let me hook on to the 50 amps.

I don't think you will be able to park in that space this year, too many coaches will extend the parking line further down.

Are the existing coaches spread out to (unofficially) reserve space - so we don't get another group move in on us?

All we have to do is tell them that we have 50 rigs coming in and they immediately split. Lots of room out there.

Jeanine does a much better job than me. A coach set up late last nite on the left at the beginning of our peninsula. Say they were there last year, they remember the Marabito corgis. Have 5-6 coaches coming in till Sunday. Should be able to co-exist.

I got my rig parked there last night... Then this morning I had to jet back home (I do mean jet, Airbus) and I'll get back to QZ Monday Evening.......

Meanwhile my wife and her friend are babysitting the rig.. When, that is, they can find it (They got lost coming home from the airport... Now understand I made sure they knew which section of the desert we are parked in (Tyson's wash) and I gave them a GPS locked on the Rig's driver's seat... And they still got lost

Has anyone tried a multiplexer attached to the 50 amp pedestal?  Maybe it will multiply itself and spit out a full 50 amps to whoever plugs in.  And maybe among all the techies we have coming, someone will figure out how to make it all wireless so we won't have 50 amp cables running all over the camp area.   ;D

I was very hospitable.  I asked if they were here for the RV Forum Rally.  When they said no, I said we were expecting about 60 rigs and they were welcome to join us.  I also said we were a lively group, hoping they would interpret that as noisy.  They only took a few minutes to decide to leave.

Possible Smokey, My rig is set to pass on up to 30 amps on each leg of a 50 amp hookup..

However it won't provide 50 amps to everyone,,, Just 50 amps overall, so ifyou are using 30 on one or the other legs there is 20 amps left for the other users,  if you have 5 rigs each using 10 amps, on a leg there is nothign left on that leg

BTW where will you be getting the rig serviced?

I pulled into QZ around 3:30 or so this afternoon (Thursday). Was nice to be greeted by so many RVForum friends plus get a big Helaine Hug -- and to find that Bernie had reserved my site by my fire ring. Thank you, Bernie -- you are a gentleman and a scholar :)

This was a bad weather trip for me, Tom. Wednesday AM I hit that kind of valley fog that we all dread -- plus it was raining as well. That slowed me down quite a bit, but I managed to make Barstow last night. However, at Mojave the heavy winds hit. Not too bad as it was a direct tailwind. But today, around Ludlow on the 40 I hit killer winds. Several big rigs blew over -- according to a trucker on my CB. Not a good feelling trying to keep my rig on the road while watching three tow truck trying to right an 18 wheeler.

Had my rig serviced at CW in Rocklin. I used to use Jiffy Lube in Sacto, but once I got my 2Way dish -- I wouldn't fit in the bay anymore. :(

There are tons of rigs here already -- so will get the site updated tonight and in the AM when I do a better rig/head count.

:) Kathy and I should arrive sometime Thursday (26th) afternoon. We both still work and cannot get off any earlier. So hopefully there will enough room for our 36 foot Prairie Schooner 5th wheeler...no washes please.

FYI - After I'm done zipping up these wooden pallets with my reciprocating saw to 12" lengths, I should have about a half-cord of various wood in the truck bed for the campfire too. Hope that helps.

Anyone have or know of anyone with a decent used "Quad" ATV or mini-dune buggy gizmo for sale?? Talk to me at QZ. Thanks.

I pulled into QZ around 3:30 or so this afternoon (Thursday).

I'm back in the Detroit area for the weekend (Will be back to QZ Monday Afternoon)

Just spoke with my wife... She mentioned meeting you (Nice thigns were said about you)

And by the way a public thanks to Bernie,,, He showed us to a parking space, helped me back in
and got us settled for the night when I arrived in my newlly repaired rig.   Then he tried to help wife and dizzy blond friend driver find their way back to the rig (alas, they were way too lost... thankfully I thought to give them a nav aid and between it and myself... We figured out she was in the wrong part of the desert, (Wrong ranger station) got that fixed and she found the rig no problem)

Now if we could just tap a bit of Smokey's 50 amps :-)... Only need about 10 or so

Speaking of getting lost, I had to go back to Phoenix last night and tried leaving at 3:30 am.  It took me a full hour to find my way back to the ranger station.  Looks so simple in daylight.  Really tough at night.  :D

Somehow I missed you.  When you get back look for the guy who keeps spilling his drink at happy hour and introduce yourself to me.   ;D

Wanted to report that the latest list of arrivals is now posted so you can see who is here and who is not. Looks like we have 23 rigs so far. Will be adding any names from Betty's group of those that decide to stay on for our rally. Right now, the group itself is posted on my list as one rig.

This has been a very good day here in QZ. It's really been fun greeting the new people that have found our forum and this one of many rally's of this forum. The weather today was beautiful as well. Hardly a cloud in the sky -- and we felt the warmth of the desert, which is nice after spending the past month in the rains of NCal. Many were seen in short sleeves and short pants.

Evenings are cool to cold as the night wears on. However, Helaine allowed me to build a fire in my fire ring tonight and a number of folk joined us. That's what I love the most about the desert. Sitting around an open fire under that incredible AZ sky -- with RVing friends from around the country. Oh -- and BTW, Jeannine and Dan noticed and quickly pointed out one of the brightest and fastest moving shooting stars most of us had ever seen. Amazing.

Anxious to see the arrival of many more names from the attendee list . . .

Bob, thanks for welcoming our friends Dave & Lisa this evening, just as I was calling Dave on the phone. We leave Lake Havasu in the morning (Sat) with the Reiters and should be there before noon.

Hope Dave didn't tell too many bad stories about us  ;D

Oh -- my pleasure and a pleasure meeting them.

Actually, he spoke only very kind words about you, Tom -- and withheld all the bad stories.  ;)

Bob:

Glad you made it in OK.  I may have failed to meet you last night at the happy hour.  If I did, I was overwhelmed by so many new faces.  If I didn't I hope we can say howdy this evening.  This is a first rate operation you run and we are very appreciative.   ;)

Hi Smoky:

Wasn't able to get to the happy hour last night. Just too zonked after fighting the weather for 2 days getting here. I'll find you tomorrow, tho. I did meet your friend, Shayne. Thanks for talking them into coming. We had a good chat . . .

Thanks so much for the comment of our rally. I appreciate that. Actually, I just proceed in whatever direction Helaine points me. This rally always goes back to Fred and Daisy -- they set it up originally and it all just falls into place each year. Hope you have had a chance to meet them.

Looking forward to meeting you . . .

Thanks, John. It's been fun meeting so many nice people today. Glad you made it here -- and sorry that you have had to do all this extra travel stuff over the weekend. Looking forward to meeting you in person. You will be amazed at how many more rigs are here now vs. when you first parked Tuesday afternoon.

Mike, Wendy & Sam arrived Friday, January 20, 2006 around 5pm & stopped to say hello to all & then went to set rig up.
I just noticed we did not make it on the latest list of arrivals that Bob posted as of Friday, January 20, 2006 09:23 PM.
Had no luck getting my Direcway Tripod system working so I am online via my Cell phone tonight.

Bob:

I was going to walk up and introduce myself yesterday afternoon, but you were busy with Tom's friend pulling in and I did not want to interrupt.  Maybe today!  We saw that Monaco pull in and thought at first Tom had shaved his beard and dyed his hair blond.   ;D

Look closer  - some of that blonde is Dave's bald head (g).

I'm sure.  The area was kind of vacant Tuesday.  Wife tells me it's filling up however

The convention I"m at features a "Young Lady" (Ok, so she's about my age) who is currently living in Oregon.  She is a Celtic musician and very good... To be honest her concert last night was worth the effort of getting here... and I have it all on digital media (PCM mode or wav if you prefer)   She is trying to spend more time in Michigan.

There are others here... but I did have to return to this convention this last time if only to tell folks I'm moving on and though I'll now be going to other cons... this will very likely be my last Confusion (The convention I'm at)

Did just buy a new T-SHirt..... Mad Scientist Union Shirt (not like the one I already have)
