The Family Motor Coach Association is inviting RVers who do not own motorhomes to join in the FMCA's Spring National Rally at Perry, GA, March 14-17, 2011.  Members have often requested to bring their non-member friends to an FMCA rally and this one provides that opportunity. It's not 100% altruistic - they hope to interest them in becoming members if they switch to a motorhome instead of a towable RV. Maybe they will even make the trade at the rally.

Bring An RV Friend To FMCA?s Family Reunion In Georgia

Dear Fellow Members,

I would like to share with you an opportunity we will have at FMCA?s 85th Family Reunion & Motorhome Showcase in Perry, Georgia, to introduce non-motorhome owners to our wonderful lifestyle. Think back a moment. Have you ever had a friend say, ?I wish I could go with you to the FMCA convention, but I don?t own a motorhome?? Have you ever thought that this would be a great way to introduce our friends to the motorhome lifestyle?

Many of us started out in the RV lifestyle with a towable unit before we discovered the advantages of motorhome travel. And many of us have friends who travel in a fifth-wheel or travel trailer but have considered moving to a motorhome.

Recognizing that there is no better way to learn more about the motorhome lifestyle than through the offerings at an FMCA convention, the FMC Board of Directors decided that with the ample parking available at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter, this would be a great place to test the idea of opening the event to owners of other types of self-contained RVs. The dates of the event are March 14-17, 2011.

Of course, the idea behind inviting all self-contained RVs to come to our reunion is to generate more interest in the motorhome lifestyle (and sales of motorhomes), which ultimately should result in more motorhome owners joining FMCA. We want to showcase the motorhome lifestyle enjoyed by FMCA members and take a step toward encouraging others to join our motorhome-enthusiast family. And what better place to shop for a motorhome than at an FMCA event?

Another group of folks this test will benefit are FMCA?s associate members. As most of you know, associate members are FMCA members who once owned a motorhome but no longer travel that way. Many of them want to remain connected to FMCA in order to keep friendships made over the years, and to continue receiving our quality magazine. Unfortunately, FMCA associate members who now travel via a self-contained towable RV have not been able to come to conventions and stay on the grounds. Things will be different in Perry. For this particular event, FMCA is saying, ?Y?all come; we will find a space for you, our associate members, to still be part of our fun and fellowship.? After all, that?s what family is about.

A special area with zipper-style parking will be established to accommodate the self-contained towable RVs. FMCA members who wish to park with friends who don?t yet own a motorhome will be able to join them in this lot. These FMCA guests will pay the non-member rate but will receive a one-year subscription to Family Motor Coaching magazine as part of that fee ? a way of staying in touch with them and continuing to share information about the motorhome lifestyle after the event ends.

So, for people who are interested in exploring the motorhome lifestyle and witnessing the friendships and benefits gained through participation in FMCA, what better way to share what we already know than to put out the welcome mat in Perry, Georgia, and invite owners of all self-contained RVs to attend? Please invite your friends and join us in this test.

It's good that they are putting them in their own section..... I go to the "Rally" which allows anyone to come & the big problem is that lots of these trailers & fivers use "contractor generators" which are quite loud if you are parked next to them.

The separate parking is because of the the logistics of parking a towable vs a motorhome.

We were all mixed together at The Rally. Didn't seem to be logistics problems but, as Terry said, a lot of them had big noisy generators. Of course, if trailers/5ers are in a separate section, then it kind of negates the idea of having friends with different types of RVs go to the FMCA rally together.

I'm sure that's the party line.  They wouldn't want to be accused of Class Warfare.

The parking issue is siting the towable so that the tow vehicle can unhooked and driven away. The way FMCA parks motorhomes, the tow vehicle may get blocked in when pulling into the site, they do not back in. The Rally may be using a different parking procedure so that that issue is not encountered.

I realize that...... but it is still to our advantage of not being parked next to a contractors genset.

They are allowing motorhomes to be parked in that section with their trailer friends.
