A favorite bass lure of mine for our local waters is a Popper, so called because of the popping noise it makes when twitched on the surface of the water while being retrieved. It emulates small fish splashing around and breaking the surface as they feed. The noise and the action drives the big bass crazy, and they can't resist attacking the lure.
I had to smile when I walked past a near neighbor's house over the weekend and saw he had a "Popper" mailbox.
