I finally got to try out the Sweep Panorama mode of my a55 today at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge in south Florida. I simply put it in Sweep Panorama mode, pointed it to the left side of the shot, held the button down and swept the camera left to right. The camera then spit out the following shot. It could not have been easier.
