Well, the whole question is in the subject.  I've heard the PP&M version of this song, but I recall a male singer did it in the 50s.  Anybody remember?

My childhood career goal was to be a bum and ride the rails and eat out of cans, so this was my favorite song.

Rusty Draper had a hit with Freight Train in 1956. Be careful you don't do a spoonerism of his name.

Has to be the Rusty Draper.  The year is perfect, too.  Somebody plays it on Youtube from a 45.  Amazon's mp3 copy is beautifully remastered.  Sounds great.

THANKS

Amazon shows Frankie Laine doing "Mule Train."

The Rusty Draper version that I downloaded from Amz is the one I remember.  They sure did a nice job remastering it.
