I am not sure if this is the place to put this post, but I am wondering what other people who work while full timing do other than workamping? I have see some post about being vendors, what do you sell?
The reason for the question is, I am a dog groomer, I am thinking of making the back bedroom in my TT into a dog grooming room. And groom dogs at the RV parks where I stay. I know it has to be cleared with the Parks, but I have asked at a couple if they would allow this and was told yes. I am wondering if other RVers would consider having their dogs groomed in this manner? I have seen a lot of dogs in the parks that sure could use a good grooming. And talking with the people, it seems a lot don't know where to find a good groomer.
I sold my two shops a few months ago, I am a good groomer and treat the dogs very well. But would this be a worth while thing?

We would certainly go for something like that. Would be very convenient.

Be sure to check campground rules. Some prohibit commercial ventures on their property.

Understand Tom, I have inquired a couple places and if they give the OK I am good. Hope I can do this next season. Thanks Mud Puppy

When i was in florida last year there was a camper that had a mobile van that did this i think they didn't limit to the park and probably could work outside too.

You probably know more about reglation.

If ever around Broken Arrow, OK I have two that need bathing and grooming now!  Will be full timing in the near future and will be needing that kind of service for our two dogs.  I think it is a great idea!

I was asking my daughter about that (She is competition for you by the way)

Her concern was drying the dog after a shampoo.

Oh, folks... She works at a Pet Smart in GA  I believe she works at the Pet Smart in Brunswick

Sorry I have been off line for a while. As far as drying, I felt I could plug my K9 blow dryer into a 15 or 30 Amp outlet and since the back room is for grooming, dry the dogs there. I am going to try all this before I leave in October this year. I have a German Shepherd and the hair does fly when I do her. It will be a good test. Mud Puppy

MudPuppy ~~ We always carry the 'BarberBox' (us & pups)  ~~ Maddog was a Groomer for many years ~~ groomed 2 on our 4 mo. 'Meander' Both were CG Owners/Mgrs pets ~ And both were clean and dry to start with.  Passed thru quite a few towns with do it yourself Doggie Laundrys.  Might solve the wash & dry parts of the grooming.  Just a thought.  TakeCare ~ TravelSafe ~ HaveFun  ~~  Kate

At first glance I see a lot of Canines around here and in other parks I visit, and quite a few could, shall we say, use a cut and curl as it were.

What I'm not sure is how well the idea will be received by the other campers though... If I had dogs, I'd like it, and might well schedule a meeting.. but many folks get into a relationship as it were with their barbers and hairdressers and that includes Rover's and would not let anyone other than, say Amy at the Pet Smart in Brunswick, GA, trim their dog.

(BY the way,  Folks, if you happen to be in Brusnwick GA, there really is a dog groomer named Amy working there.. Please give her business)

We were just in a park in Silver City, NM where there was a woman doing just that.  Thought not in the park itself.  I though she was just a traveler like us, as late in the day she came into the park in a class B with her ad painted on its sides.  She may have had a permanent like trailer in another section of the park, but I'm not sure about that.  When we left the area, we passed by her shop set-up.  It was on a near-by corner of a busy intersection.  She used the Class B as the grooming place, apparently using the onboard water supply.  Didn't have time to investigate the whole set-up, but thought to myself that she was a pretty good entrepreneur.  She saw and need and filled it.  I would expect she needed to get city o.k. for it.  But this is to tell you that there are others out there doing what you want to do.  You just need to know what rules to follow where, and you should do o.k.

I have stayed at a few parks that had groomers come through but I think they were local. I understand how people like there groomers or barbers, I have been a groomer for many years. But I do think people on the road would consider another groomer if their dog was in need, and if I had pictures of dogs that I have done before. I could have my own following and let people know where I will be and when. I do plan to have a grooming room in my TT just like a mobile groomer. I will do everything in that room. The noise should not be bad so I can't see that it would upset other campers. I really don't want to groom like I do at my shop. I just want to make a little spending money. After all I want to be retired. I know I will have to be very careful and get permission for the RV parks, I don't want to upset anyone. I will just have to try it and see what happens. Mud Puppy

Hi new here but old professional dog groomer.  If the dryer is taking too much juice, get one of those air blaster dryers.  They do not use heat and so use less energy. They blow the water right off the dog. Does not work great for a show poodle cut but I would think most campers do not want that cut? I think your idea is a great one.  Unless you are at certain place during the same time, you will not build up a local clientele but.. also keep in mind that some full timers are on a very limited budget so you may have to price at less than you want to get business.

My income is online. My top payer is Zazzle.com, and my #2 payer is Squidoo.com. Other places I get a (very) small income from include Lulu.com, Spoonflower.com, Etsy, Amazon.com, Associated Content, Keen.com, Commision Junction, and RedGage.

If you don't know those websites, than I'll explain what it is I do...

I am a writer (non-fiction), author (fiction), painter (acrylic & pastel), photographer (nature & flowers), dollmaker, and quilter.

I write articled for places such as Squidoo and AC and they pay me for that.

I self publish books via Lulu and Amazon and get paid for that. (I planning to expand to include ebooks for Kindel this fall)

I sell prints, postage stamps, notecards, and t-shirts of my art & photography for a 48% commision on Zazzle and a 10% commision on CafePress.

I sell quilting fabric I designed for the fabric manufacturer Spoonflower.

I sell dolls and quilts and other items I sew on Etsy. (I plan to expand to include canvas paintings this fall.)

I do psychic card readings for people off my "Psychic Hotline" account with Keen

CJ and RedGage are affilate linkshareing pay-per-click companies that pay me a commision for placing their adds/links on my blog.

All of this COMBINES to bring in anywhere from $90 - $600 per month, depending on varying factors (such as if and how many new articles I submit, how many hours my "Psychic Hotline" is "online", etc.)  I can easily increase my income by writing more articles, staying online longer hours, or listing more items on Etsy, but at the moment, I don't really have the need to, as my income - though low - is plenty for my current expenses.

I have a plan to start selling my craft items and paintings from a booth at fairs, I plan to start that in 2013.

I also plan to start a mini "Dungeon Master's booth" to set up at RV Parks, as part of being an activities host (which I also plan to start doing in 2013), seeing how I'm a Dungeon Master and have a massive collection of Rpg and board games and casino games, which I could easily convert into a traveling gaming booth for campers. Though I'm not sure that I'd be doing this for money...no idea how to turn such a thing into a money making venture. LOL!

Not sure if you could live off it full time or, not sure how much you'd earn over overhead and not sure how many folks would know/find out you were there, but I think it would be good as a supplemental income at least, and possibly be a full time income if you had enough customers. But I would say go for it, I mean you'll never know for sure it it works or not, until you have tried it.
