One of the penalties for living on a small island is small ferries. A while back my rear view mirror gently grazed a yellow painted steel pole on the ferry which left yellow paint on the forward face of the mirror housing. The mirror housing is textured so I can't use anything abrasive to remove the paint and I've tried everything in the garage to get paint off except paint stripper. Anyone got any ideas please.  :-[

Did you try mineral spirits?  Moisten a rag and cover the spot for a little while and it might loosen up the paint.  A stiff brush might also help.

polishing compound will do it but dont over do it or you will remove your clear coat and or paint

Removing the yellow is the best thing, fer sure, but don't ignore the 'easy way'  (Assuming the mirror housing is painted)  cover it over with good spray paint or black shoe dye.  That's the  Q&D way!
