How Often Do You Use Your 'B'??
« on: June 12, 2011, 09:02:16 PM »
I think in general most class 'B' RVers are part timers.  Have seen some posts were a few are full timers but really not many.  Full timers and heavy users are usually big rig people.  So, my question to all you class 'B' people out there is:  How many trips do you typically take a year in class 'B' and how long are the trips??

Joanne and I normally (if there really is such a thing) take a 1 month trip a year and maybe 3-4 one to two weekers.  We also will take a few short trips of just a few days.  So, overall we probably spend about 2-3 months in our class 'B' a year.

How about you??  What is your personal experience and track record.

There was a physicist a while back who gave a very interesting talk on TED about "8-dimensional model of elementary particles".    At the end he stated that his parents despaired of him living without "full time employment".   He is also a surfer.  He digresses from his physics talk into life balance at 16:45 and then into a few shots of his class B in Maui.

Garrett Lisi on his theory of everything Physicist and surfer Garrett Lisi presents a controversial new model of the universe that -- just maybe -- answers all the big questions. If nothing else, it's the most beautiful 8-dimensional model of elementary particles and forces you've ever seen.

Hi Len and Jo,

While it is probably not fair for me to reply to this thread not owning an RV, my wife and I have ideas of using a class B for about 2 to 3 months during the winter time in order to beat the cold winter days in the north and taking it out for a week or two and some weekends while staying at our stick house. We would not be full timers and don't want to sell our house which we built.

I also would like to run the RV to Oregon to visit my sister and nephews once a year during the summer time. We don't want to impose on them by staying with them (they wouldn't mind and haven't in the past) but want to have a place to stay and visit with them while we are there for the duration. Lots of nice campgrounds in Oregon where they live or not too far away.

Not sure about the response of Tony_Alberta on your topic, though I do like to talk science.

I have only had my ERA for five months. Since I am now retired ... full-time ... I can come and go as I please. And I do ...

To date I have taken several one week trips. The longest so far was a 10 day trip. I have plans for several major trips over the next few years ... 2-3 months each. I also plan to get away from the cold north winter weather as well. Probably a month in November, a couple of weeks in the Savannah, GA area which I love, and then maybe a couple weeks on the east coast of Florida.

Then ... depending on the weather back home ... I'll head back again in January/February to Florida and wander around a bit. I have a condo in the Fort Myers area but my daughter and I generally rent it out during the winter months. If not ... then I might stay there for a few weeks ... but don't care for the area because there is too much traffic.

I also take numerous day trips or overnighters and will use the RV for that as well. I am passionate about photographer and will use the ERA to travel around the area just to take pictures. Sometimes I will lose track of time and stay overnight wherever I happen to be.

I can't say that I am a full-time RVer ... but definitely a full-time part-timer.  ;D

That's us, full time part timers.

Just starting to think about making plans for this year.  1) A very slow trip down and up the Natchez Trace with maybe some time spent in New Orleans and Vicksburg.  2) A fall color trip (weather permitting for good colors) of a few weeks around Michigan's U.P. and maybe a little bit of Wisconsin over to Ely Minnesota  (for some new, made in USA, Wintergreen Northern Wear clothing - to die for and $$$ but lasts for years) and Ontario as far north a Lake Superior Prov Pk.  That would consume at least 2 weeks and maybe 3.  Three one week family get-to-gather trips already scheduled in the summer!

Enjoy!!!!!

In 2009, our first year with our 2006 Roadtrek Adventurous, we took five trips and covered about 17,000 miles coast to coast. In 2010, we took one 2,500-mile trip.

We just did a one-week 1,200-mile trip from Silverthorne, Co to St. George, Ut, and back. And we'll do at least 3 more trips this year and between 12k and 14k miles. I'd also like to do some shorter Colorado trips this summer. We'll be done by early Oct.

Hi Len and Jo ...

It's hard to say for me since I've only had my RV since last November. Since that time I have taken 3-4 one week to 10 day trips and several 2-5 day trips. Basically all shake down trips in preparation for my larger trips. As I have mentioned else where in this FORUM ... I travel alone at the present so I find it quite comfortable for me. I have three major trips planned over the next couple of years. Maritime Provinces & Newfoundland; Northwest Territories/Yukon and Alaska; and finally Route 66 from NIagara to Chicago then on to LA. Each with be 2-4 months depending on the circumstances and how many side trips I plan on taking. I also have a number of friends around North America that I will try and visit on these trips.

In addition to the above I will also be taking 1-2 weeks trips on a regular basis. I just love to explore the land as much as possible. My next 2 week jaunt is planned for August. Although I have several smaller trips planned before then.

I also plan to head south during the winter for as much as two months ... not necessarily all at one time. Maybe one month in Florida and later another month in Texas or some other warm location.

All in all I plan to use my RV quite extensively ... at least 6 months out of the year for the next few years.

By your pic you do look a little young to drive but on the other hand you should have many years of travels.  A good thick seat cushion should go a long way in helping with the driving.

Here are a few short (open to interpretation) slide shows of some of our travels and some cover some of the places you are planning to see.

Ha! Ha! LOL ... One of these days I will post some updated pictures of myself. I have many on my PBASE web site and I have that listed somewhere here. :)

Thanks you so much for  the links to your trips. I have seen others in the past and have throughly enjoyed them.

Happy travels to you both.
