Refrigerator Check
FMCA Magazine July 2011

In recent years, both Dometic Corporation and Norcold Inc. have announced major recalls affecting refrigerators installed as original equipment or added as aftermarket equipment on recreation vehicles. Many RV owners received recall notification from the companies and had the necessary repairs made. However, if you own a motorhome equipped with a Dometic or Norcold refrigerator and have not received recall notification, or if you have recently purchased a preowned motorhome that has a Dometic or Norcold refrigerator, you may want to check to see whether your refrigerator needs to be serviced.

Owners of Dometic refrigerators can find recall information online by visiting www.dometic.com/enus/Americas/USA/Customer-Support. Once on the customer support page, click on the ?RV Fridges ? Recall Information? link on the left side of the page, which will direct you to a page with information about the recall; a drop-down list of the models involved in the recall; and a box to type in your refrigerator?s serial number to find out whether it is involved in the recall.
Owners also can call Dometic customer service at (800) 544-4881 for more information.

Owners of Norcold refrigerators can find recall information online by visiting http://www.norcoldrecall.com/. This site includes information about the recall, how to determine whether your refrigerator is involved, and how to get it repaired.
Owners also can call Norcold?s Recall Center at (800) 767-9101 for assistance.

Attached are photos of one motorhome I saw that was destroyed in in minutes by a faulty refrigerator that could have been corrected by the recall.

In buying a used RV, there is no assurance the previous owner(s) ever had the refrigerator inspected, and in some cases there have been more than one recall for a specific model.
