We will be in the Destin Florida area in October and November. Does anyone know about the campgrounds in the area? We are in a 35' 5th wheel.

After hearing rave comments about the place, we stayed at Camping on the Gulf in Destin. That turned out to be a huge disappointment. It wasn't exactly cheap, and we ended up walking around in 'mud', more like soggy wet sand.

They have some sites paralleling the beach, but they weren't that great either.

There were at least two long threads last year about that area that you may be able to recover in a Search.

In the meantime, I should still have them in my subscriber list and will try to point them out later today.

We winter in Orange Beach and have personally surveyed a number of places in that area when we were there last year. Destin, on the beach, is a bit of a tall order. We stopped at the place Tom speaks of, although did not stay, and his assessment is accurate.

Are you geared to be in Destin itself or can you slide up and down the beach east or west?

Top Sail would have been our choice if we could be that far east, but we needed to be west of Pensacola. Very nice, if a little pricey for a state park. We thought the state parks along that stretch were very good.

You are still in season on the beach through October by most standards, so don't be surprised if you have to work a bit at fitting in.
