Stopping safely
« on: April 06, 2006, 11:05:16 PM »
If you're driving a motorhome and towing a car, the car needs an auxiliary braking system to help you stop safely. Without such a system, a car weighing say 3,500 lbs will mean that there's 3,500 lbs pushing you when you try to stop. Most states require auxiliary brakes when towing a car, which adds a legal reason and, in the event of an accident, a potential liability reason for having them.

Auxiliary braking systems come in different flavors and you can read about some of them by clicking the Library button above, selecting Towing and towables and clicking Auxiliary (toad) braking systems. We do not recommend one system over another and you will need to select the one that's appropriate for your motorhome and car.
