Excellent point John.  The spouses and kids served the same as the vet him/herself.  They made the moves, changed schools, made new friends, lost old friends, and tolerated separations just like their military father or mother.  In my case, they made it possible for me to complete a 20 year Air Force career.  Thanks to all spouses and kids of vets.

Welcome Home Jim Cooper.

Vung Tao was nice with the beach there.  I only made it to Vung Tao once and it was not for an in country R&R.

As I recall there was a maintenance ship just off shore.

We have a thread on here of old war stories, not gory or bad but just stories.  Feel free to add yours.

Just do a search on "War Stories".

Thank you.  Vung Tau was not an R&R Center when I was there.  They were building it when I left.  It was a small airfield with just a few hundred Americans and 65 Aussies.  We were in the old tin hangers on the airfield.  Yes, the beach was nice and so was the village.  They still liked us in those days.

1979-1983:  11B, Army, 82nd Airborne Division
1984-1990:  PS2 USCG Reserve
2011-2015:  88M (to old for the11B thing) MI Army NG, Camp Leatherneck,  Helmand Province,  Afghanistan 2012-2013

Times have really changed.   When I  was first in the service, don't recall anyone,  a few may have,  thanking me for my service.  I'm suspect it was too soon after Vietnam.  During my last period of service,  I was constantly thanked for my service.

Thank you all that served before I did, especially you Vietnam veterans, job well done and welcome home.
