Minnie Rally in Las Vegas took place this afternoon with Judy and Al Griefer, Jerry and Ardra Fitzgerald, and the Ruwards enjoying dinner at the Silverton followed by a evening of music at the Outdoor Resorts.  Was great meeting the Griefers.  Thanks Al for inviting us all over to Outdoor Resorts for the music.  The attached Photo is of the attendees near the Griefer coach.

All,

For those of you who have stayed at the Silverton Casino RV park before, it's gone...closed.  The reason is that the city is building a road directly through the now gone Silverton RV Park.  Also, the Silverton moved their buffet to where the old showroom was.  It's much larger and VERY nice.  It's a keeper!  The new much wider freeway overpass over I-15 is coming along well and should be done in 3 to 6 months which will help the BAD traffic problem which, of course, is worse because of the construction.

As an investment it appears to me that the purchase of a MH lot at Outdoor Resorts Las Vegas would be a GOOD thing to consider.  Outdoor Resorts is about 2 miles from the Silverton.  One reason I say this is because the Silverton's RV Park is gone and the ONLY other RV park at the south end of the LV Strip is the Oasis which is supposed to close in 1-2 years for condo development.  This leaves one RV park at the Circus Circus Casino and all the others are across town and a fair distance away from the strip on Boulder Highway.  Even on Boulder Highway 2 or 3 V Parks have closed in the past year and Sam's Town RV park is scheduled to close because of Casino expansion.

Al G, can you tell everybody the cost and particulars of owning a lot at Outdoor Resorts such as initial cost, monthly fee, amenities, rental when you're not there and so forth???

Thanks for the photo Ron. Did Al tell you that his new coach will be amphibious - so he can enjoy the best of both worlds?

Al didn't mention amphibious motorhome.  One thing that was mentioned was that Tom would be bringing fresh Asparagus for all attendees at the Moab rally.  Sure hope you get to the asparagus festival we are looking forward to the fresh asparagus. ;D

I'll get Al to load the asparagus in his coach before he leaves the Delta.

Gee Tom you have that empty bay or has Chris already filled it up.  Jerry said he could steam the Asparagus just right. ;D

For those of you who have stayed at the Silverton Casino RV park before, it's gone...closed.? The reason is that the city is building a road directly through the now gone Silverton RV Park.? Also, the Silverton moved their buffet to where the old showroom was.? It's much larger and VERY nice.? It's a keeper!? The new much wider freeway overpass over I-15 is coming along well and should be done in 3 to 6 months which will help the BAD traffic problem which, of course, is worse because of the construction.

The sites here start at about $159, 900 and go up from there for larger or corner lots.? Each lot comes with basic landscaping, 100 amp electric, basic cable, water and sewer.? The HOA dues is currently $215/mo and covers such things as water & sewer fees, 24 hr security, 5 pools and spas (Main central one plus outbuildings and pools in each corner of the resort), tennis courts, 9 hole putting course, clubhouse, owner's lounge (currently being built), basic landscaping service, etc.

The resort was developed by Monaco, but has just transitioned to homeowner control.? Monaco continues to stay involved as rental and lot brokers.? they are also building a combination diner and mailstop at the entrance of the resort for the benefit of the owners.

You can add facilities to your site, other than actual rooms.? Typical sites have upgraded landscaping, outdoor kithcens, palapas (sort of a thatched umbrella with a telephone pole like post), cabinets for entertainment centers, refrigerators, washer/dryers, etc.

If and when you want to rent out your lot, it goes into a pool and all lots are rented equitably.? The owner recieves a reimbursement for electricity plus half of the remaining rental fees.? The rental fees start at about $50 and go up from there based on amenities on the site tha can be used by the renter.? My understanding is that owners who rent out their lots full time typically make enough to pay their HOA fees, but that's only hearsay.

If you have any questions sent me a note.? I can usually get you a coupon for a free 3 day/2 night stay, but you'd have to talk to a sales type (most of them are really low-key and laid back)

Did I mention that there are frequent events in the clubhouse, most of which have an open bar?? ;D

The official web site is here http://www.lasvegasmotorcoachresort.com/ but the map hasn't been updated.? It only shows the first phase and the last two phases have now been built.

As you know, Jerry -- that's was my park of choice in LV over the years. From Sacramento, I hang out in Reno a lot and stay at Boomtown, Verdi. At that time, the current Silverton was Boomtown, LV. When their lease came due a number of years ago, the owner decided not to renew the BT lease, renamed it to Silverton, and ever since, the emphasis on RV'ers has wanned. As you know, BT Reno is high on RVers and even has a freebee overflow lot. So that is why they had such a nice RV park in BT LV. Of course, if the City, State, and Feds decide to do a freeway, not much anyone can do.

They had a deal going during the summer in Reno. For every night you stayed in BT Reno, they gave you a free night in BT LV. Of course, it's so hot in LV during most of the summer, one cannot leave their RV even to get over to the Casino. During my last freebee stay there (as a guest from Reno), I did not see one person use the swimming pool -- just too hot. However, that sure was a nice RV park.

Anyway, thanks for the info. When will you all leave for Moab? I will be leaving Gila Bend in the AM and should make Laughlin by Monday evening. Not sure of how long I will be there.  Need a few things such as a fix at a $3.00 crap table, make a few Sacto Kings sports bets, desert at the Harrah's buffet, and  a new $19.95 watch at the Watchman . . .  8)

Jerry, I hate to see all these places close, but as for the Silverton, maybe that will help erase a terrible memory I have of an awful BONEHEAD  experience.

This was years back in our old RV and we had come down from Green River UT on a very hot August day. Many of the sites were  elevated with the motorhome level  but the car was on the downslope.  I pulled in and hooked up utilities and got the air cond running. I decided to go back  out and unhook my Honda toad, which had the old Stowmaster mounted on front of car.

In the haste of the 115 degrees or more heat I rushed and did not set the emergency brake. Next mistake was I undid the safety cables. I unlocked the pulled up the hitch off the ball. There I was with a 3000 pound Honda with all I had to keep it from rolling back and right in its path was a nice new and big motorhome!

Well in a few seconds a lot of things went through my mind. There was practically no one in the park so the chance of anyone  coming by or hearing me yell for help would have been in vain.

I was much younger then so I gave it all I had for a few minutes, manged to inch it forward  and got that bugger back  on the ball. Having run some 10Ks and having some other stressful situations, this was absolutely the worst.

It all seemed like an eternity that hot afternoon but its still very vivid memory.

Now I never unhitch anything before disconnecting the safety cables. They are forever last.

Anyway, thanks for the info. When will you all leave for Moab?

Bob,  Ron and Sam are here and depending on getting everything ready for our trip we will leave for Moab, at the earlist, on 4/20 and, at the latest, on 4/22.  Sure wish you were coming to Moab!  I know you like the Boomtown Reno, so did Ardra and I.  Kenny Rogers did too.
