I have a 2004 Wrangler with the standard bumper. I've been using the cheap-o HF flip up tow bar, and am ready to move up to an easier-to-hookup-and-detach Blue Ox or Roadmaster.

I currently have the brackets attached directly to the bumper.

I've seen that Blue Ox seems to have 2 ways to attach:
The BX88230 bumper brackets, or
The BX1120 Base Plate.

The latter is MUCH more expensive...

What are the pros/cons?

THANKS!

Hi Mark, I have used the bumper brackets on a 01' Wrangler that I had. They work well if you drill through the bumper and through the frame tube directly behind the bumper. Use grade 8 bolts to attach the brackets. I pulled that wrangler for about 3 years before I traded up to the JK. No problems and towed great.

I have a Blue Ox and the direct bumper connection to an '06 Wrangler. I've towed it 30,000+ miles without a problem. Unless you are going to an aftermarket bumper, I see no advantage to the plate since the bumper mounts are connected directly to the frame on a Wrangler.

Thanks, all, for your replies.

I currently have the bumper connectors for my HF bar...This has been helpful.
