Took THIS video on March 6 in Laughlin and sent it to Youtube. Have experienced high wind in Laughlin but never like this. Fortunately my awning was up, but some were not so lucky - or wise. I used the video feature of my Samsung Charge smartphone and shot if from inside my Jeep on the Riverside Hotel/Casino parking lot.

What the heck were you doing out in that wind, Bob?

Good question, Wendy.  :) Actually, was already out and about when it came up - and was on my way back to the rig at the time - so I just rolled down the Jeep window and did the video.

The wind seems to come up really fast here. Last fall on my first day here the temps were around 108 degrees with the sun on my awning side - so I pulled it down to allow the A/C to catch up faster. That evening decided to do the Riverside buffet. There was not a breathe of wind, I was bushed from a days travel and setup in the heat, so I broke my hard and fast rule of never leaving the rig w/the big awning down. About half way during my walk back to the park a big one hit - and by the time I got to the rig the awning was a mess. Cost me about $150 to have it put back together again.  :(

Am from Kentucky originally, but moved to NCal in the sixties - and that is still the location of my mail delivery and health plan. Have been full timing since '95. But the only time I have witnessed winds like this was once driving through Mojave, CA and several times at sea while in the Navy - with the worst in the North Atlantic.

I used to drive through Yerington a lot in the 80's. I had a continuing contract teaching computer semiars in Las Vegas for the company that managed the test site. On my returns to NCal preferred going north to Reno and then down to Sacto. I would stay on 95 to just south of Schurz, NV, then go West through the Yerington area. It was like an oasis compared to the desolate drive up 95. Sure beautiful country there.

It was horrible here in the Rio Grand valley as well; however, the jet stream did a u-turn over Mexico and hit us from the south and headed for Canada, making the mid-west and east extremely warm.

Wow, that is a wind storm.  I remember one time years ago, must have been 84' I think.. Was stationed at Kaneohe Bay, had a 30 day exercise in Twenty Nine Palms.  The worst wind/sand storm I had ever seen.  Could not see your hand in front of your face.  The desert gets angry once n' awhile!
