While doing some looking around on the web, I found this conversion van company which is very close to where I live.

Thought this might be of interest to those interested in B class vans. They do the Sprinter conversions as well so lots of options.

In the early  90's we purchased a Sportsmobile from them.  Terry did all the planning for  inside layout, outside color, awnings. Then they built it to our specs.    It was a  wonderful rig that got us into the tiniest of spaces  in forests, deserts and the beach.  They were a wonderfully responsive company to work with.  We lived in Southern California and the rig was built in Fresno, CA.    We worked with Alan, a very likable family man.  Yes if interested in any way do give them a jingle!

Sportsmobile has 3 locations; California, Texas, and Indiana.  Had our top added in Indiana.

Greetings all,

I'm near the Indiana one. I may have to make a trip down there and check things out.

Thanks Len and Jo,

Went through the thread and looked at all of your hard work, including the penthouse top for your van. The one shot really showed the added room heighth and space.

You really have something to be proud of in your RV conversion, and I am sure set the pace of others to consider working on their own. Me, I'm too lazy (or maybe just too busy) and would lack the talent to do that. I'll have to consider a used B. Working on saving up some of the money for a down payment.

The more I look the more I'd like to have this purchased in the next year to year and a half so I can take some trips and get aquainted before I make it more of a retirement lifestyle. It sure is nice to live through other's experiences and gain some knowledge and hopefully avoid mistakes (time wise and cost wise).

If you want to consider a Sportsmobile, you could watch out for a good used one (and hopefully also at a good price).  Here is the Sportsmobile Forum address: http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/

I used to have a 99' E-350 Quigily 4x4 Sportsmobile V10. I loved it. The workmanship was good and never had any problems. Just watch out for the Fords. The A/C never holded a charge. Plan to re-charge it every other year.

Thanks, Owen
