I don't currently have an RV or van, but have been doing a lot of research.  I am most intrigued by the passenger van/ class b with the penthouse/ pop top.  I have seen several DIY pop tops on different forums, but they all seem to start with a westfalia or eurovan top and just swap it onto their van.  More searching led me nowhere into a source for secondhand or replacement tops besides getting lucky in a salvage yard.

My question is have any of you ever seen (or heard rumor of) someone using a full size fiberglass truck tonneau cover as the basis for their pop top conversion??  It seems like it would be the right size (8' x the width of a truck bed) and it would a logical choice if you cannot get your hands on a westy or eurovan top.  There must be some downfall that I am not thinking of.
