I saw the link today and wondered just how useful this might be. While it says the van pod can sleep up to 4, and there is an in-roof double, if there are only the two front seats left in it after conversion where are the others going to sit while the van is being driven? Ride their bikes?

This was a pretty good video of it but I am still not convinced it is ready for the market. Price-wise especially.

Here is the Bike Radar article about it... http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/video-doubleback-vw-campervan-33163/

At GBP55k I think it is too steep for what it offers but I am not from the UK so don't know what kind of mobile home your GBP55k could buy.

Very nice but $85K Wow ! Of course, what does a new Roadtrek cost? Maybe some day when we decide to downsize.

Wendy, that would be some sort of downsizing ;)

I should add that I think this is a quite elegant solution to the space problem. The pod can take up to 400kg/880lb and is self-supporting, self-levelling, so it is quite reasonable with loading. For a 2 person family it would probably be quite a reasonable and comfortable compromise. One of the pictures showed the pod with a permanently setup bed in the back which means you wouldn't need to climb into the rooftop cabin. A big selling point for us.

I am guessing that it would be a lot easier to find parking spaces for the unit, most camp-site bays could handle the extension easier than anything swinging out to the side.

Price would probably be a major stumbling block but there are some very good points in its favour.
