I'm actually very good at picking winners but my accountant's mentality says not to put money down where the odds are you're going to give those $$$ away. I would be a great casino accountant....they always win.

Wendy did not mention a pick Ron.  4th place is better than no place at all LOL!

I have pretty much struck out on the Triple Crown.  SweetNorthernSaint for the first two (best he did was second at the Preakness) and my 4th placer at the Belmont.

Such a short memory. ;D ;D  Wasn't it Wendy and Mike that won the pick while we were at Moab?  They had to do it the hard way by picking the right site long before the that race. ;D ;D

Much easier to pick a horse based on its history than it is to pick a campsite that matches up to a winning horse!!! Of course, I guess we do owe part of our winnings to Peter since the site was originally his....thanks for cancelling, Peter :)

Karl    are you trying to tell me that if I make a bet with Smoky   Let him pick 1st and then just bet against him?  Sounds good to me after watching his track record on the Derbies.

Sure I remember that about Wendy Ron, but that was then and this is now.  This thread is about the Belmont, and the Derby was two triple crown races ago LOL!

Sure I will take you on Shayne! Two fourth places and one second in triple crown races that have had fields as large as 20 is not too shabby IMO.   ;D

But wendy has a better winning average than you on just one race.  You haven't picked a winner in three. ;D ;D ;)

Wendy -  there is a lot more ways to bet in horse racing than win, place, and show.  4th place can earn a lot of money if it is part of what they call the exotic bet structure.

That said, I admit I could not pick a first place in the Triple Crown, if that is what Ron is trying to tell me.   ;D

Smoky better not be buying anymore toys.   Drinks can get expensive when you spen 30 bucks for a drink.  Oh well, one less toy.  LOL

Ron:

Yes.... I had Sweetnorthernsaint across the board at the Preakness when we were in Maryland.

Wendy:

You are on!  I will have to wait more than a year to collect that drink though!

Shayne:

Look at it this way.  I always wanted to see what Johnny Blue tasted like.  $30 for an ounce I could afford.  $200 for the bottle I could not.   ;D

Might I suggest a quaint little '61 Ch. Lafite Rothschild or a velvety smooth '49 Ch. Gruaud Larose? Perhaps your tastes go more to the Pommerol region; then a '55 Ch. Petrus may be more to your liking ;D

My taste runs more toward White Zinfandel in a box or occasionally Merlot from a bottle....but I'm sure I could upgrade my tastes for the bet.
