If the subject of this post didn't raise an eyebrow, then what can?  Believe it or not, there are zillions of reasons to visit the D.C. area - but via camper??  Whoa.  Here is the scoop.  If you are planning a trip to D.C.  we recommend camping in a park that is run by Fairfax County Parks or the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority.  Specifically, Bull Run Park or Pohick Bay Regional Park (NVRPA), or Lake Fairfax and Burke Lake Park.  Bull Run and Lake Fairfax are located west of D.C. in Manassas and Reston VA.  Both have terrific water parks and other fun stuff.  Pohick Bay Regional Park is located south of Alexandria, is the sister park of Bull Run and also has a nice water park.  Burke Lake is located a bit further down off of I-95.  When you are camped in, look for the location of the nearest Metro (subway) station.  You really don't want to enter D.C. by vehicle (hit the HOV lanes if you must).  You will have to pay to park at the Metro and plan on buying a "go-anywhere" type pass.  THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA BELTWAY IS UNDERGOING CONSTRUCTION.  THIS IS A TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE!  The Metro stations will keep you out of that mess!
