HISTORY: BASEMENT AC WORKED NORMAL ON A MONTH TRIP IN MAY THIS YEAR.  NO USE UNTIL EXERCISED 8 8 2012 WHEN PROBLEM SUDDENLY STARTED.

1. operating on board generator, works fine  2. turn on basement ac 3. compressor activates 4. inside vibration feels and sounds like gen. is missing on one cylinder. ac cooling feels normal 5. go outside, gen sounds fine, bottom pan of AC housing strongly vibrating 6. turn off AC vibration stops.

MY NOT SURE DIAGNOSIS: SINCE THE AC SEEMS TO BE COOLING NORMALLY ON A 94F DEGREE DAY EVEN THOUGH IT SOUNDS BAD, THE VIBRATION SOUNDS AND FEELS AS IF THE COMPRESSOR MOUNTS SUDDENLY COLLAPSED AND THE COMPRESSOR IS VIBRATING DIRECTLY ON TO THE AC HOUSING.

HAS ANY ONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM? WHAT WAS THE SOLUTION? WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE TO GET THE AC UNIT OUT FOR ACCESS TO THE BAD PARTS? DOES ANY ONE KNOW OF A CHEAPER SOURCE OF PARTS OTHER THAN THE DEALER?

THANKS

One problem a lot of people have is a build up on the condenser fan. Sometimes a daubber nest. You should be able to crawl under and see the fan through the screen. These fan are also prone to cracking which puts them out of balance. There is a replacement plastic fan that is much better.

If you ever have to replace it there is a great removal write-up by Duner on the procedure.

Hi and welcome gearhead.  Would you like us to refer to you as gearhead or is there there a conventional first name we can use?

Another vote for a problem with the squirrel cage fan.

Gearhead,
My neighbor just changed his fan on his 03 Journey.  Please be aware the 03 was a different then the model Duner did.  The fans had separate motors and were not on a single shaft.  Make sure you also replace the bearings with permanent ones.  He didn't even have to disconnect any wiring as there was sufficient wire to pull out the whole unit and set it on the ground.  Good luck on your project.
