Random Fan Clutch Problems
« on: August 20, 2012, 07:29:56 PM »
We took our rig out for exercise today and about 2 miles down the road, warning came on, High Engine Temp. I remember this happened once before about 2 years ago, just after we left camp. The first time, I thought we must have lost water or fan belt. Killed engine, checked & could not find anything we expected, so cranked it back up & everything went normal. We had completely forgotten about it till today.

Today, we did not kill engine. We just left it idling, went back & first checked our dash air condenser fans (another thread), then went to rear to check water. Water OK & fan blowing extremely hot air out through radiator. OK, it should get cool doing this. Temp was normal for the rest of this trip.

I think, the fan must have failed to come on both times. Freightliner tells me the fan comes on full speed when it loses electrical power.

I am interested in opinions from others about what might be happening.
