Hi all, we will be traveling from San Francisco out to Salt Lake City, up to West Yellowstone, Bozeman, Billings MT, Rapid City SD, back into Wyoming then down through Colorado. We are traveling in October and having not traveled in these colder areas before, I am not sure if I need to winterize the RV. Any advice greatly appreciated.

If you run into cold weather you could burst the pipes that carry the water in the RV and have a real mess. You either need to winterize before you even start out or be prepared to watch the weather forecast and winterize on a moments notice.

If you're traveling IN the motorhome, there's not a problem. You'll certainly be running the furnace to keep yourselves warm. We travel a lot in October and we do not winterize unless the motorhome is sitting somewhere overnight without us in it. One thing you will want to be careful of is hooking up the hose. If you're in a campground with hookups, hook up the hose while you're using water, add some water to the tank, then disconnect. Don't leave the hose hooked up overnight when the temps can get down in the 20s.

Enjoy your trip
Wendy
