Walmart as a board sponsor?

Well, now that we have a dedicated thread for Walmart issues, has anyone thought of contacting Bentonville and ask them if they would like to sponsor our board? 

Maybe they would even want to have one of their PR people monitor it to make sure they get out the right information?  I've noticed a Pressure Pro rep on here about the TPMS.

I know recently I told a friend about a casino I stayed in where the people were nice and welcoming.  When he went out there, that was not the case for him.  There was another place close by I stayed at as well, so he was able to go there, where they welcomed him, but I still felt bad about his experience.  So just because I've stayed at the Paris, TX Walmart several times, doesn't necessarily mean the next RV will be welcomed.
 
We have found that the friendliness of campground (and any business) personnel is in direct correspondence to the attitude we express towards them.
 
Just a thought... what is more important: to save a few bucks by parking at a Walmart or patronizing an RV park ?  The Rv parks are free enterprisers (mostly) trying to make a living. Let's support them the best we can. Without them RV'ing would be a disaster.

  At today's fuel prices what do a few bucks matter per a night's stay.  -30-

 
I cannot count the amount of complaints I read on this blog how we have lost our way, no jobs, etc.  I guess we are the cause of this country's demise? It starts with buying clothes, food, I read that "if the price was right I would buy a Motor Home from China"

Tires? China makes a cheap tire!  How about Korea?  Oh yea they have a plant in somewhere USA. So I'm buying American.  So I'll save money camping in a Wallmarts, Cracker Barrel, or maybe a Flyimg J.  The owner of a campground pays taxes, salaries to make my stay comfortable, SAFE, and relaxing. Not to mention the upkeep.

I doubt Wallmart, Cracker Barrell ot Flying J own the property ref. the parking lot so what do they care if you park there for the night. 

Well I hope I did not offend anyone, but maybe planted a seed.
 
Some years ago when I was in law enforcement, a new Walmart Supercenter was opened in our town, the largest one built at the time. The store manager told me his budget for "shrinkage" was $600,000 per year. He said they would rather push the merchandise out on the parking lot than attempt to control the shoplifters.

With that perspective, I seriously doubt that RV'ers are even a blip on the marketing plan at corporate.

I prefer to stay and pay the many small businesses along the way who contribute to their local economy in their own way and who I can talk to, face to face, with questions and complaints when I need to.

Walmart already has my grocery business when they are available and I am pleased with that service. I cannot imagine them getting in the RV business nor do I want to encourage them.

If the Forum chooses to allow board sponsorship, I trust they will pick wisely, but I personally have no desire to see Walmart ads.
 
If anyone would use any ad blocking software on this site, then I hope they contribute the equivalent amount of the sponsors payments to the forum via the Donate button.  The very few ads here are all RV relevant.
 
I read the ads and visit the sponsors.  If the RVLEDBulbs.com had a kit for a 1999 37g adventurer I'd get it.  But I need to go through each light, so I'll do it one at a time, before the end of the year as the sale is good through the end of the year.  Gary has a great post with pics, so I need to measure and get numbers for each of the lights before I can order.  The florescent light looks like it would just plug in, but Gary said the ballast needs to be wired around.  Had I not read his post I would have thought the light was bad when I put it in.

I prefer ads, to pay sites.  Most of the pay sites, I pay, then don't use them like I thought I would.  But many of us already shop and park at WM.
 
Let me refine my resistance even more.

I agree with Ned that the current ads are relevant and would hope to see more. I happen to be a big fan of SMI Air Force One, for example. And certainly I entertain using the vendors advertised here first when appropriate.

However, I do not consider Walmart an RV destination, and I think that the convenience of their parking lots in a pinch is a bonus to those who use them. But I think that value is diluted when you see 20 rigs scattered across the Walmart lot with slides and awnings out for several days. And I feel sure that if everyone used the appropriate etiquette nobody would have an issue. But, as we all know, it just takes a few ill mannered people to poison the well of good fortune.

So, to the OP, I just don't think we need to approach Walmart as a sponsor because of the very loose fit to the RV community. Frankly, I would prefer to be self sustaining with more members using the Donate button, like I do. Multiply the number of Forum members times one night's rent at your favorite place (not Walmart), and we could put this sponsorship conversation to bed, methinks.  ;D
 
First, let me say that any and all suggestions are welcome.

My personal opinions on 'camping' or 'overnighting' at WM are well known; It's just not for us, and we've never stayed there in almost 30 years of RVing.

Meanwhile, I have no plans to approach WM for sponsorship; I don't see a fit with the forum, and I don't see what the incentive for them would be. That doesn't stop them having an employee visit and explain the company policy, but I doubt that would happen.

Well if you do not read them then there is a lot of wasted bandwidth being eaten up by your computer downloading them.

But if you block them you save the bandwidth,, Thus blocking is better.

It is like Television: My wife fast forewards or skips across commercials.. I just ignore them.. I honestly can not tell you what the last commercical on the tube was less it was real funny like the GEICO "Happier Than" series which are about the best on TV just now..

I hate commercials in any form. That is the main reason I don't watch TV. I would not click on any ad on any Internet connection no matter what it said. However I think the ads are still downloaded, just not displayed. However I am not 100% certain about this.
 
I'm with Skyking and Tom on this subject.  We never go to WalMart unless forced to.  Many reasons for this, ;D

We are among those who do not read ads, we dash through them on TV, they are completely wasted on us.  If I want something, I'll do research on-line and then go buy it, either on-line or a local store if I can get it locally.  We have a super WalMart that opened here last fall.  I went into it once, and it was a disgusting experience.  I've not been back.  I find that in the other stores in town I do just as well or better sometimes including food.

I really only stop at the one in Paris, TX.  I store my unit there and the WM is on my way to my farm.  This morning I'm drinking tea instead of coffee because for the first time I just came straight to my farm.  Had I spent my first night there, I would have remembered I used it all up last week end. 
I'm not as enthusiastic about WM as I keep forgetting stuff.  I thought this time I had it all together.  All week I was working off a list, clean sheets, clean towels, clean Clothes, pancakes, pure maple syrup,... How does one forget coffee???

Even got to use the heat this morning for the first time.  Worked great, but after I turned off the heat at the thermostat, turned off the generator, the fan continued on for about a minute or so.  I started getting worried about that.  But the hot tea was a good substitute for coffee and I'll stop on my way back to my parking spot and have it in here so I don't forget next time.

As you can see from my pic, not much in the way of supplies out here where I boondock.

Any sponsorship even remotely related to RVing is probably good, keeps the forum free.

Whether Walmart sponsors here or not doesn't matter to me. Getting through their corporate myriad could take months to get a clear answer.

I am not a fan of Walmart, I shop the cheaper places.  Walmart is  just are not the bargain they used to be.  I will set foot in one when I have to but otherwise I don't.  Being single makes it hard to take advantage of their groceries beyond the produce as so many things are sold in jumbo sizes that don't fit my tiny fridge or pantry.  I don't overnight there anyhow. 

Call me old fashioned, but I like campgrounds. ;D

Having said all that, I have occasionally been struck with sudden exhaustion and pulled over somewhere for a nap in the middle of the day, but I try to plan ahead for a campground before dark-thirty. I feel better napping and sleeping in a campground where I have paid my fee and am clearly welcomed to be there.

On another note... in Titusville Florida I wanted to shop the Walmart there but they have laid out their parking lot with landscaping  in such a way as to make it impossible for RV parking for even a half-hour of shopping. Seems like it would have been cheaper to put up a sign "Cars only, no RV's welcome"
