I have a 2012 Nissan Altima automatic that I want to use as a Toad. Anyone have any luck or advice on towing a vehicle with a CVT trans.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Quickly checking the Remco towing site (the acknowledged authority on such things) http://www.remcotowing.com/vehicles, their list only goes through 2011 but indicates your Altima with the CVT transmission must be dolly towed.
You might give them a call to see if your later model is an exception, but it does not look promising. :-[
You can do a little searching here with the keywords "Altima" and see if you locate any further information.
I have a 2012 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid with CVT and the owners manual says it can be flat towed. I haven't set it up for towing yet because I still tow a Toyota Prius (which also has CVT but can't be flat towed) on a dolly. I believe the Ford Fusion Hybrid with CVT is also towable without modification.
Here is a list of cars with CVT's. Most are not towable - apparently the design does not lend itself well to that. Ford has some that might suit you, though.
