Mini Rally in Anza Borrego
« on: December 06, 2012, 11:22:49 PM »

Gary and Maria came to visit Mike and Wendy at Anza Borrego Desert State Park in the Palm Canyon CG.  Yesterday we went with them to show them some of the metal sculptures by Ricardo Breceda. After we showed them a couple, we spotted a Lexus stuck in the deep sand. Stopped to see if we could help and Gary gave it a try but we could not get them out so we all chatted until the AAA tow truck showed up to winch them out. After they were out, Tim and Maureen invited us to go have a beer on them so we did. After the beer and nachos we went back to the CG.

Today we all decided to do a hike and Gary drove us to Blair Valley so we could hike up to Yaquitepec the former home site of Marshal South and family. It is a short 1 mile hike but most of it is up a very steep trail. On the way back to camp we stopped at the grocery store for some supplies and then for dinner we got together for a taco dinner. Then Wendy and I went back to our rig to watch the last half of the Broncos football game and they WON!!

See how much fun there is to be had in Anza Borrego ?

Pics attached to make it an official Forum Rally.

The views from up there are fabulous, but that family must have been a little nuts to want to live there year round.  The video at the visitor center is very interesting.

Now I know why people drive big red trucks - you can see them from a long distance in the desert!  ::)

Looks like you're having fun in nice weather.  Mike must be back to about normal if he's out hiking.

Here are pic of the  sculptures we did get to see before we stopped to try and help get the Lexus out of the sand.
The Large Sloth and one of the Horses fell over during high winds in Oct. The horse is OK just laying on the ground but the Sloth lost his head.

It's a very cool place and the weather has been perfect, highs in the low 80s, lows in the 50s and no wind (knock on wood).

We hope to get out there sometime.  It looks like a cool place. One of the bloggers I follow is in that area now, and she has posted some cool pics as well.  http://rvsueandcrew.com/

Mike and Wendy and Framily,

If you want to read about the history of the sculptures there is a very nice article in the Nov/Dec issue of the Escapee Magazine.
