A question for our UK-based members .....

Where can I find a list/guide to RV (caravan/motorhome) parks/campgrounds in the UK, more specifically in Wales? I'd be interested in checking out a few of them during an upcoming trip.

Thanks John, much appreciated. I can't wait to see these "full featured" RV parks that we've been told about. I've been away too long because the ones I recall were essentially one big field; Tow the "van" onto the field and park it where you find some empty space. No hookups, but you could get water from a tap in the corner of the field - fill up a Jerry can and drag it back, pour in the tank and repeat until either the tank is full or you can't carry any more.

Thanks again John. We'll be staying just a hop, skip and jump from the ones in West Glam and a long way from the soccer thugs and hooligans.

BTW I'm reminded of some friends who took their kids on a "gypsy caravan" holiday in Ireland some years ago. They hitch the horse to the covered wagon and off you go. The horse knows the path and knows when to pull into a field for the night. A week later you're back where you started. Our friends and their kids had a blast.

One morning they were talking to another traveller who was complaining that he didn't sleep a wink because every few minutes the horse moved to another spot to graze. The chap didn't know he was supposed to unhitch the horse at night  ???

Don't forget if you are bringing your great BIG American RV over take off the awning or else the DVLA bogie man will have you. ;D ;D  Only kidding :)
 
LOL Mick. We'd have to be flying on a different plane if we were bringing the Monaco.

I could have a word with DVLA while we're over - my wife's family is from Morriston (suburb of Swansea and home of DVLA head office) and some of them work at DVLA. They have a FOTW width waiver that you can apply for in person. I'll take a count of how many coaches we need waivers for. Let me see .... how much is it worth per coach?

I'm looking forward to having faggots and peas. Chris' sister just called and said she'd make them for us.
 
LOL John, I can think of some folks I know who forgot to unplug the power before leaving the campground.

Thanks for those links Ian. We won't be staying at any of the parks; I'm just interested in seeing how they compare with the variety of parks we've used in the U.S., especially after reading that the ones in the UK offer so much more. So we'll drive around and take a peek. Heck, if they're that good we might move.
 
Tom, if you're just driving around the countryside, keep in mind Kelvyn, located in the lovely Lakes District, has a B & B and a warm welcome waiting for all.
I wouldn't suggest staying at Barry's Scout Camp unless you are really looking for a basic camping experience, mind you lots of Scouts and Troops from the US have stayed there. Barry and I are part of an international Scouter list, the Brownsea Island Patrol, which was set up after the sad demise of the Scouting Forum on Compusucks :(

Thanks again Ian. We weren't planning on visiting the Lake District this trip. We're primarily visiting family and will be staying with my oldest son who is within easy driving distance of all the relatives. But, if we think we have a few days free, how would I contact Kelvyn?

On a prior trip, four of us went over to attend our niece's wedding. We spent the first week at a B&B in Builth Wells owned and operated by the parents of a guy on one of the now-defunct UK forums. That week turned out to be a festival week and the whole town was dressed in period cosutme with lots of activities going on.
