Location
Montana in Summer - S CA this winter
I am currently in Moab Utah and it has been unseasonably cold here and it is projected to stay that way for the next few weeks I am thinking seriously of heading further South...any ideas or recommendations where you can winter inexpensively?

Northern AZ, Nevada or S Utah would be preferred, but open to other options.

Thanks

Jim

If you want to boondock then head for Quartzsite were there are many free places to camp. If you want hookups then what is your price range? I am in Phoenix at a great RV park that is $350 a month.

That is not a bad price for a full service park and I could live with something like that...I was hoping to not have to go as far as Phoenix...but it may have to be that far the way this winter is going.

What is the name of your park?

Thanks

I am researching...

Leaf Verde RV Resort. Actually in Buckeye which is a few miles west of Phoenix. I have stayed in a park in Kingman at Zuni Village RV Park and it was cheaper, but it was a dump compared to Leaf Verde. Leaf Verde is a wonderful park and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

JIm, your problem is not latitude, it is altitude.  Temperatures gain 5?F for every 1000 feet in alitude that you lose.  Get yourself down below 2000 feet and you  will be  lot warmer.  Moab is at 4200 feet.    Phoenix is at 1150 feet.  On the other hand, much of N. AZ is at 6500-7000 feet.    You do the math. ;)

Here in Phoenix it is getting down into the 30s at night and up to the 60s in the daytime. I can't imagine how cold it must be further north.

I think it's been unseasonably cold all over the west for the past couple of weeks.  I-80 required chains for a week straight, up over Donner Pass and was closed down several times in the past week.  Quartzsite was 32F three days ago.......it's just plain cold.

Of course if you have any kind of wind pushing that cold, then it feels even colder.

The long term forecast (10 day and 30 day forecasts) do look to be more promising......  http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Quartzsite+AZ+85346

Thanks - Yes it has been unseasonably cold all over the Southwest...St George Utah has had cold and snow as well as Page AZ and several other places I normally frequent. I will be here in Moab for at least the next couple weeks....then if it hasn't started to look like a warmer trend I am going to hitch up and head further South.

Thanks for the info....

Moab isn't exactly considered a "warm" spot even in an average year. Highs in the 40s, lows in the 20s. You're gonna have to head south if you want warm (or less cold).

We are in the Coyote Ridge RV park in Bouse AZ. It's about 25 miles north of Quartzsite. It's pretty much in the middle of the state. We pay $160 per month with metered electricity extra. Electricity costs us about $60 per month.
It's colder here than normal. The days have been in the high 50s and middle 60s. The nights have been in the high 30s to middle 40s.
It looks like we will have some colder nights next week with one in the high 20s and the rest in the low 30s.

It's 39 degrees right now in Tucson AZ.  With rain.  It's not exactly a warm year anywhere here in the desert southwest.  As Carl L said, you need farther south AND lower altitude.

Almost anywhere along the lower Colorado River area will be significantly warmer than Moab.

Laughlin, NV - several casinos allow you to boondock for free in their parking lots for up to 2 weeks.  They have special sections set out for overnighting RVs.  You have to register with casino security, but in exchange you get access to water and a dump station.  I don't gamble, but there's enough in and around Laughlin and Bullhead City to keep me occupied for a week or two.  There's also a regular RV park in Laughlin and several county parks across the river in Bullhead City if you want to stay there for a night or two while you scope things out.

Bouse is about 20 miles from either Parker or Quartzsite and has several low cost parks.  I stayed there for a month last year and enjoyed the solitude.  The disadvantage is you're really in the middle of nowhere, without TV reception unless you bring a satellite dish, and while there's a small grocery store in town, you'll be running into Parker for your shopping.

UPDATE - After doing some research and looking at this weekend weather report in Moab where it was predicting negative 25 degrees, I figured it was time to move on. So on Tuesday I hitched up and drove the 600 plus miles to Blake Ranch RV park near Kingman, AZ... what a great place and much warmer, although they are predicting an "Arctic Blast" for the next day or so, but still way warmer than Moab.

They have a fantastic winter special here and it looks like I will be here for a while. Buy two months get the third free!! Not a bad deal and they have all the great facilities. Good electric, good water, sewer, cable and WiFi...I can work from here, so I am set for awhile. The rest rooms and showers are some of the best I have ever seen and spotless. A full 10 X 10 room, like home with toilet, sink, shower and places to hang up your clothes and towel etc. I am once again a "Happy Camper"

LINK HERE!

Thanks for all the input...

BTW - Next weekend is the Balloon Festival in Lake Havasu...will be going down to take some pictures and enjoy the sights!

We did an overnight there a few years ago, liked it and put it on our stay there again list.  :)

I just discovered another great feature of this place, very nice clean laundry room with plenty of machines and it is only a dollar for the washer and a dollar for the dryer....I did two loads of laundry for $4.00. In Moab at a laundrymat I did two wash loads and one large dryer load and it was $10.00 and the clothes were damp when I took them out. Here they were dry! After one run for each load....another reason to really like this place...

I put a good review in RVReviews....
