Following the Western  Area FMCA Rally a bunch of us caravanned to Anza Borrego to dry camp for a week or so until we  migrate to Quartzsite. We stopped at Red Earth Casino off Highway 86 to find  a  wonderful spot to  group up with folks.  Jim got propane.  I got bread.  Mimi got a sandwich.  Terry, Russ, Jim dumped for free. We  found our desert dry camp spot across the street from Peg Leg's.  Jerry found a spot at The Springs at Borrego a fullservice RVPark . Following a  chili happy hour all afternoon at our site, we  met at Pablitos in Borrego Springs for a fine Mexican meal at Pablitos. First thing Jerry did was to spill his marguerita all over his lap. We had a good  laugh and the waitress  furnished him a fresh  drink after she mopped up the floor!

We planned the activities of the week.  Shopping at  10 am meeting at Borrego Outfitters made the first blush of an agenda.  Terry is going to work on Russ' electronics or some such blue job. Jullians pie is on the list,  hiking is on the list.  Shopping is on the list. Viewing the metal sculptures is on the list.  Fonts Pont is on the list. Boy are we having fun now.

You guys are killing me.  Killing me!  What memories of you all.  :D :D :D  Have fun for us!

Betty...the picture turned out great, thanks I love it.  Also folks please notice that the other picture, taken by Terry, shows my margarita in all its glory just before I spilled it.  The worst part was that I had not had one sip out of it!

Jerry,

You made my day as typically I am the one that spills the drink.  I did a glass of cherry juice the other day, all 12 oz. and I too never had a sip from it.

Yes, Pat will verify that I dumped the drink and that I frequently spill drinks.  I think others in the Framily will also vouch for me!!

Wish we were there as Julian was one of the places I took Pat for Pie while we were dating.  Quite a drive from Orange Co. for a piece of pie and a cup of coffee/tea!  Julian has been a favorite in my family since the early 60s.  Fond memories of Borrego too as that was where we met the Barberas.

Maybe next year.

Is it as cold there as it is back here in Surprise? Low 27 last night, high got all the way up to 48 today, more of the same tomorrow.

Sure hope it warms up for Quartzsite next week. 8)

Beautiful sunny days can be deceiving.  It was warm in the sun but cool in the shade.  The  planned  10 am shopping activity at Borrego Outfitters was a hit. Six of us  managed to find treasures at the  upscale gift/sportshop.  I bought a walking stick,  lightweight as a tooth pick.  I bought earrings.  Liza bought shoes (on sale) and a beautiful sweatshirt for Ray.  We wandered across the mall to an art shop and reviewed their art work and  prints of lithographs.  Several of us wanted many things but  alas wall space was a deterrent to  shopping.

While in the shop one of the artists asked us if we  knew about the healing powers of the  Tibetan Singing bowls.  None of us had heard of  such a thing.  She continued to demonstrate using Jerry as a test subject.  Seems Buddhist monks spend years creating the bowls with several metals and result in a bowl that  has medicinal  properties.  In Europe this  " non traditional healing device"  has  achieved medical acknowledgement. So Jerry took off his shoes, sat very still and was set up with the bowls.  The artist used her  skills to hit the metal bowls and watched Jerry be silent for several minutes, quite a feat if you know Jerry. I was watching and felt the vibrations of the  metals.  I truly believe in this vibration of the universe thing!  Jerry  asked lots of questions about the cost of the  bowls. I bought  a mouse pad and a key chain.

We then  went to  Carley's for lunch and enjoyed the menu items.  The plan was to go home, get the guys and go see the sculptures. When  we got home  plans changed.  Finally a brief Happy hour  happened to share the day's  events.  Liza shared her Indio purchase of a "whip." She had been demonstrating it's use  in the restaurant, until we asked her to stop being  so graphic!  When  Ray joined us at Happy Hour he had a leg full and shoe full of cholla thorns.  Seems he had fallen into a cactus while  taking photos of  the sculptures!  Liza shared the sweatshirt she bought for Ray and it seems both  Jim and Terry find it of interest. I see another shopping event  in our future! So enjoy the photos of our day.

Margi this is for you!

You got me all interested in the sweatshirt then didn't post a picture !  Did you go to the outdoor shop with all the metal artwork ? There's a rooster with Coca-Cola on it that caught my fancy.

Actually photos 3 & 4 have a  photo of the folded shirt. No we did not get to the shop you mentioned.  Tomorrow! Models to follow!

Don't forget The Frugal Coyote. And the Farmers Market if you're there on Friday.

.... the healing powers of the Tibetan Singing bowls.

Very interesting Betty. In a recent conversation with a local chiropractor, I learned about 'sound healer' Tito La Rosa who demonstrates (in concerts) the healing powers of music played on ancient Peruvian instruments and vessels.

.... Jerry took off his shoes, sat very still and was set up Jerry be silent for several minutes

That would be an event I'd pay to see  ;D

Looks like I quoted your whole message and then didn't respond at all.  Techno Klutz strikes again!  I can picture Jerry being silent for a few minutes, but I can't picture him sitting still that long.  ;D

The vibrations from that bowl were very soothing and even permeated throughout the room.  Many of us in the room also felt very relaxed!  It was something to experience!

It was  hiking Day.  Eight of us  ventured off for "them there hills" at  10 am.  Jerry, Ardra, Jim and Terry set out for a 6.1mile, fairly strenuous downhill hike down.  It dropped 2500 feet so it was steep.  It was called the California hiking and Riding trail. We left a car at the bottom for them to take  upon their return and ferried them  up top.  Ray, Liza Pat and myself took out to  find Cactus Loop Trail, a strenuous hike around a loop but we had to stop for  snacks first.  A  healthy array of seaweed,  pumpkin squares, carrot chips and string cheese fortified us for  a beautiful yet challenging hike.
Terry enjoyed my new hiking stick so much that he phoned me  mid way down his hike to have me run over to the  Borrego Outfitters and get him one.  I also  got him a sweatshirt like the one Ray got yesterday. Don't ya just love technology?  Here he is  way  up on a mountainside and  I am also up another  mountainside and we  made plans to gather up the group for lunch. So we met at Carlee's for  burgers and  beer.  All had worked up an appetite and the big round table made a nice warm place for our late lunch, "Happy Hour." We had good food and good service.  A plan was devised for  tomorrow to head out to Jullian at  10 am.  I see pie and ice cream in our lunch future tomorrow.  Nights are still pretty cold.  Last night was 28.  We are watching weather reports for a warmer end of the week.

Here are a few more  human interest shots from our hike today. Scenery shot is the  view  the  long hikers had on the way down.  In another shot , we see Terry as King of the Mountain.  We see the  group (minus me)  that  hiked S3 near the  campground.  Finally  a shot of  my group hard at work on the trail!

Had fun  and will  likely feel this hike  tomorrow!
