We had been researching travel trailers for a few months, and decided to go to the spring RV at CalExpo in early March. While they did have a lot on display, mostly it was large RV's and fifth wheels...we were hoping they were going to have more pop-ups, small travel trailers, and some fiberglass versions. The closest we came were some Chalet travel trailers which were hardwired but folded down into a more easily towed package.
There were no fiberglass trailers on display at all - which was sad! We had really hoped to see some in-person. We did check out the smaller trailers (under 18 feet in length, under 2500lbs) which included the Econ, Clipper, and Swift.
We had also planned on seeing more discounted deals and show specials; the first day we went, the saleman told us they were waiving the $695 dealer fee to set-up the trailer. The second day they told us a different story (??!!). We were able to check their online sales on our smart phone at the same time, and realized the "show deals" weren't any better than what they already were offering on their lots!
We ended up walking, and not getting anything at the show. We bought one a week later, and got a better deal than at the show. They also waived the set-up fee ;D
So, my thoughts - the shows are great to visit and see/research options, but don't expect to get fantastic deals you can't get anywhere else (at least in CA). Do your homework and you will get the best deal with a good salesman.
