Best ways to make some $$ while on the road
« on: March 26, 2013, 11:31:45 AM »
We are trying the fulltime RV life, and loving it! We have rented our BC home for a year, and hope to sell it in Sept 2014 and carry on indefinitely. For now though, we are finding the living expenses to be more than we can handle. Are there ways to make a few bucks while travelling. We are Canadians, spending the winter in the southern US, but I have (Can/US) citizenship. We are living very cheaply, with lots of boondocking, and we almost never go to restaurants.
We have some valuable things to sell, but where would be the best spots? Hubby has an awesome Hesston Belt Buckle collection. We tried to sell it in Quartzsite, but were told it wasn't the right market. Any suggestions on any of these questions? Thanks fellow Gypsies :) Karen
From Chilliwack, B.C., and eager to head south in December for 6 wks, on our "maiden voyage". YAHOOOOOOO!!!! Here we go!

Opportunities abound.  Many/most commercial campgrounds hire RVers as campground hosts, maintenance workers, etc.  Many Federal campgrounds will pay a stipend for hosting.  Gate guards are paid well too.  Amazon.com hires part time help for the holiday season.  We have full timers here that are computer programers working out of their RV, others that sell software to campgrounds, photographers, on and on.

In addition to those listed above, we have met people who earn money while living on the road by working through temporary employment agencies, working for fast food or grocery stores, being entertainers (clowns/musicians/magicians), selling through ebay, working the flea market circuit, contract airplane pilots, construction, running a food cart, working at carnivals, painting houses, hanging christmas lights, installing glass, installing satellite tv systems, harvesting beets, working for lawn care companies, and many more. I sometimes tutor for pay, and have worked as a business consultant. The fact is that you can basically earn money while living in an rv in the same ways you can from a stick and brick.   The only difference is you can use the rv to travel to where the work is. Good luck.

Go to coolworks dot com they offer a ton of seasonal jobs and have a special section for RVer's.

Workkamper is also good I am a member and have used them in the past and will in the future....

Good Luck

Sell your collectibles on eBay.
Camp host, for $$ or for a free campsite.
Mystery shop (but stay out of my areas :) )
Amusement parks (Dollywood in Tennessee and Adventureland in Iowa are 2 that do a lot of hiring), so long as you're not overly fond of a beard.
Pick beets if you're in good shape
Amazon.com (if you can stand for 8-10 hours at a time)
Seasonal jobs in national and state parks, includes gift shop cashiers, wait staff, hotel maids, front desk and maintenance, bookstores, gas station attendants
Sell arts and crafts if you have that talent
Be Santa, sell Christmas trees, sell pumpkins.
We know people who make an annual salary doing seasonal work for 4-6 months a year.
We know lots of places to get jobs, we're just too lazy to most of them :)
