It seems that in order to pay for all the enhanced patrols between the US/Mexico border the US Government will implement a fee for Canadians who cross the US/Canada border.  It will only have a minor effect on RV snowbirds, but be a real problem for border towns who count on Canadians to buy their products.  Here is the article:  http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/348502
The second is a News alert from the Canadian Snowbird Association about a Bill that hit the US Senate.  The good news is that they are proposing to allow Retirees an automatic 2 month extension to the Tourist Visa, under certain conditions.  While it is only at the start of the bureaucratic process, it is a move in the right direction.  However, RVrs should note from the attached article that RVrs might not meet those conditions, as it says you will need to show Real Estate ownership, or proof of rental for the stay.  I have in the past run into problems at the border when I couldn't show reservations for the term of our stay, so this isn't new.  Here is a link to that news alert:  http://www.snowbirds.org/canadian-retiree-visa-update

Do these people ever think of the consequences of things like this before they put it out in public .
((( thinking of the last drivers licence law they bent over backward to retract )))

I really believe that doing this will deter thousands of people from crossing the border either way.

I know myself that I cross quite regularly to go out for a meal , do a little shopping etc.
If this was put in place I know I wouldn't bother crossing unless I was going on vacation.

I really don't think this will ever be put in effect but who knows , there has been a lot of stupid laws passed  .
