(psssttt - Steve is Dee's husband...Dale is an impostor!)

My bad.  So many friends, so many names.  I'd already edited my post.  So Steve will be riding with Someone on the 4 wheel drive in am.  :) :)

Wow! Moab activities have sure changed since our last attendance. Back then, the highlights were the whitewater rafting and Terry's birthday party.

Ron's link works just fine for me. Try highlighting/copying/pasting into your browser.

The link does not work in Google Chrome or IE, either way for me, either...

I'm enjoying everyone's stories and photos and getting excited for our first trip to UT in only 3 weeks!  (Including Arches)

This is a screenshot of the cell that hit the campground at 11:30 last night,

A few pictures of activities and scenery seen on our Fiery Furnace hike today.  Thanks to Ardra and Jerry for leading us on another fun and successful hike!

Others will probably have pictures of the grandeur of the rock formations.  These are some of the little things that are there, too.

Here are a few shots from the Fiery Furnace hike today. Many thanks to Jerry and Ardra who led us on this spectacular hike. This is such an awesome part of the park and anyone who is able to should not miss an hike into it.

here are two gpx tracks from FF today.  one is the track w/o the preliminaries and the second is a track with the preliminaries.  the gps signal was blocked some of the time but it still looks fairly informative...  it might be useful in finding the beginning of the FF trail and some of the key turns.

update:
sorry, come to find out gpx files are not allowed.  If you want a copy, email me and I'll send it.

Our little hike into Fiery Furnace started well enough.  Thirteen of us checked into the visitor center, watched the obligatory video on preserving the Fiery Furnace ecosystem and got our backcountry permit which is required if you're not on a ranger-led hike.  We got to the parking area and started the hike in relatively good time.  I thought things were going well until we started to look for one specific set of steps to take us across the next fin.  Remember that wind we had last night?  Well, there weren't any footprints at the expected location and we must have walked past the little slot at least five times before Gary finally found it with his sharp eyes.  From there we found all three arches and even the exit hike trail up the hill to the parking lot without too much difficulty.  We were glad we started early because the heat wasn't too bad down among the fins.  As you've already seen we had some good pictures.  I think I'll always remember Jan because he is very agile and jumps from rock to rock like a kangaroo!  Fitting, don't you think?  Seriously, he and the other guys were great helping with some of the big steps up and down.  Everyone helped everyone else and we all made it out safely!  We saw damp areas from the previous week's storms and we saw quite a few flowers.  The indigenous and fragile Biscuitroot plant is in bloom, as is the Mormon Tea, penstamon, and others.  I believe we were there about five hours.

After Fiery Furnace Margaret and Larry took off to climb up to Delicate Arch.  I couldn't possibly have done that after Fiery Furnace!  Jan cried all the way home because he missed the Ladies Luncheon.

Ten of us went on a Jeep ride today to Dome Plateau & had a great time except Goofy, who got mad when I forgot to take him to the Arch...
