John, when were you in Pahrump? We spent March at Preferred RV Resort. May have missed a visit.

I am happy to say that my wife has decided to accompany me to Moab, I promised her that I would not abandon her for the 4x4 trails... ::) and that there is more to Moab than four-wheeling. I am getting jazzed up, this will be our first journey of the year...outside of a trip out to Pahrump.

Does any one know what it sounds like when an elephant passes gas...PAH-RUMP! Sorry, I digressed for a moment.

Glad to hear that John.  She will have a blast, I am sure.

We stayed at Lakeside in February for our shakedown cruise in the new Aspect.

I just wanted everyone in the Moab group to know that I have surfaced from my black hole known as tax season and are thoroughly jazzed about hitting the road to Moab.  It will be great to see all of you again and meet those we haven't met before.  We will probably arrive a day late (Monday) like last year due to Mother's Day commitments on Sunday the 11th.  Dee got to spend some time with Jan and Olga when they arrived in L.A. from Australia.  Needless to say, they had a great time and are all looking forward to Moab.  I'll post again when I am more certain about our arrival date and time.

Safe travels to all,

Thanks Ardra.  I don't think I will ever forget as long as I live that time changes by an hour when you cross in to Utah  ::) We will once again try to make it for Monday night's happy hour.  I may try to drive a little farther than Vegas on the first night so it's less time on Monday.  Any suggestions for an overnight stop about an hour or 2 north of Vegas on I-15?  I am even considering a rest area as we will be arriving late SUnday night and leaving VERY early Sunday morning.

Mesquite is an idea.  If you don't mind boondocking, the Virgin River Casino in Mesquite NV has a big parking area and a decent buffet.  It's close to an I-15 exit.  You go off the ramp, turn left under I-15, turn right on the first street, go past the casino which is on the left and turn left into the parking area.

Just in case you missed it in another discussion, the area in Arizona on I-15 through the Virgin River Canyon is undergoing construction.  Seven of the eight bridges are being either replaced or renovated so do expect delays there (like for two years).  If you can make it to St. George UT that would get you through the construction but  Friday night might be hard so maybe Mesquite would be a better stop so you can go through the construction zone on Saturday morning.

We've stayed at the casino in Mesquite. The RV parking is back away from the other parking and it's actually pretty quiet and an easy walk to the casino. Sign up for their players card and you probably get a buffet discount or some free play. Or just park and go to sleep :)  Snow Canyon State Park and Quail Lake State Park in Utah are both nice but might not be a great place for a quick overnighter.

Another vote for the casino in Mesquite.  We stayed there multiple times when racing and traveling through, just stop for a few hours of shut eye.

We are planning our departure from Las Vegas early on Saturday morning (5/10/2014) just to get by the construction zone going through the gorge (I15 through AZ). Friday afternoon/evening traffic would be pretty heavy and long delays should be expected, or so says the local Las Vegas news. I'm hoping to be through the gorge by 5:00-6:00 AM, so I'll be leaving Vegas at about 4:00 AM. I am stopping early in Beaver, UT (halfway point between Vegas and Moab) for the night (maybe).

We got caught in that traffic thing heading home from Moab last year.  We went to Bryce & Zion after Moab.  We were heading into Las Vegas the Thursday before Memeorial Day weekend last year and it took us 3 hours to go from St. George to Mesquite.  The traffic was only southbound.  I never thought about there being traffic there this year going northbound.  :(  Oh well, as I always say, on time... is when we get there.  Don't worry Jan, no speeding.  Just means leaving a little earlier in the morning.  Maybe, John is right.  Leave at 4 am. UGH!

John, Susan is right!  You're weird!  ;)  That's way to early for me.

Here's another situation that "might" affect I-15 travelers just before Mesquite at Bunkerville NV.  Last week the national news carried the story of Clive Bundy, the rancher whose cattle were being confiscated by the BLM because he won't pay fees for them to graze on land his family has used since the late 1800s.  Regardless of what you think about the situation, the militia people who support him arrived fully armed.  When the BLM backed off and let Bundy retrieve his cattle, they left the area, however, the militia people say it's not over.  During the height of the situation they blocked I-15.  I saw a picture the other day that appeared to be after the BLM left and the militia people were on the side of the I-15 overpass with rifles pointing down to the Bundy-BLM area.  I sure hope they're gone before we all start making our way toward Zion - at least off the highway.  [Please, no political comments about this.  It's a traffic advisory only.]

Does any one know what it sounds like when an elephant passes gas...PAH-RUMP! Sorry, I digressed for a moment.

Late night talk show host Art Bell used to live in Pahrump and while he was there he built the town's first radio station.   For several years he had a large billboard promoting KNYE on the road going to Terrible's RV Resort with a tag line across the bottom - "things that go PAHRUMP in the night".

Back on topic - sorry I can't join y'all this year, but Escapees had the nerve to schedule their Escapade at the same time.  So I'll be in Goshen instead.
