I've been wanting to go to the Oregon Coast almost as long as I've been on the forum. Camille no longer has an interest in long trips like that. A couple of years ago I did the Beartooth in my Corolla with a tent in the trunk. Great but exhausting.
So... I bought a popup and I'm heading to Oregon right after the 4th and want to be home before Labor Day.
I'm looking for suggestions along the way but don't have a lot of route flexibility since I have reservations from LA to Cascade Locks. I don't like that but based on what I've heard about the Oregon Coast in Summer....
Here's the Plan:
Georgia to Pie Town via Memphis, OKC, and Tucumcari to spend a few days with Ann & Jim.
LA via Brenda to visit boy child.
Up the coast to Monterey for a couple of nights and the 17 mile drive.
to Petaluma via the GGB overlook and Muir Woods Natl Monument.
Three nights at Kalmath and look at Redwoods.
One week at Irelands & ride the jet boat.
One week at Winchester Bay, eat ice cream at the Cheese Factory in Brandon, visit Tom & Margi, day trip to Crater Lake?
One week at Tillamonk, eat cheese, visit Elmwood factory
Four nights at Cascade Locks, see what Woody was talking about
From here my only constraint is to be home before Labor Day
Craters of the Moon via Boise and Stanley
Independence via Rock Springs, Cheyenne and Elm Creek to visit Harry's Library
Home via Johnston City
Suggestions for great food and interesting natural or historic sites along the way?
