A few manufacturers are using these in Australia.
The 4 X4 is not a local modification it is done by Mercedes in Germany.

Those are pretty neat, I've thought long and hard about doing a Sprinter conversion.  The RV versions here sell for an obscene amount of money, but with decent used Sprinters starting around $10k, I've thought a lot about building my own.

Having an RV that turns on a dime and gets over 20mpg is pretty attractive.

I think the Sprinter Store gets a lot of its components for the 4 X4 from Mercedes.
Why is the Sprinter 4x4 conversion kit so expensive? All the components in this conversion are OEM parts designed to fit your Sprinter vs. the standard default Ford parts that are made to fit in a generic type conversion. Part of the price you pay is for the Foreign exchange rates and the shipping costs from overseas

Old post, but the clearance on those Sprinter based 4x4s appears a bit low.  Probably great for heading up the mountain to go skiing, but if really using it off road, I'd be concerned about high centering it and the resulting damage.  Now, if looking for a bit of overkill in a Class B 4x4, this is us in our former (yes, I miss it) Sportsmobile in Baja:  http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3358/3183943850_1798191c46_z.jpg?zz=1
