Announcing an extremely informal "announce it - they will come" event to celebrate the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, October 5 -13, and the Taos Mountain Balloon Rally, October 25 - 27.

We will be in the Taos area the month of October and know that a lot of folks have the ABQ balloon event on their bucket lists. A second lesser know event occurs later in the month at Taos. One of the advantages of the Taos event is being able to get very close to balloons and crews without some of the overpowering crowd crush.

We have worn out our cameras at both events in the past and have found Taos to be a super place to stage either event out of. The area is very enjoyable at that time of the year and there's a lot to do, whatever your interests may be.

If you are in the area, let us know - we'd love to meet Framily! Our park choice is Taos Monte Bello and there are several others in the area worthy of consideration.

If you really want to get up close and personal with the balloons at the Abq event, volunteer to crew, you might even get a ride. If you're an Escapee Boomer, they have a great rally at the landing field during the Balloon Fiesta. AND don't forget that a lot of little towns around ABq have small balloon events just before and after the Big Event !

Check for reservations now --they fill up quickly. I expect Santa Fe is pretty tight and most of Abq too. FYI, Isletta Lakes takes no reservations, 1st come, 1st served. Owners clubs often have rallies at the same time. I'm drinking ice water tonight from my 25th Annv Balloon Fiesta giant coffee mug.

At the risk of giving away my favorite fishing home, Sandia Casino is a GREAT spot to park during Balloon Fiesta week, free parking lot boondocking with spectacular views.

Mary got time off just today, a little late to plan ABQ. it is definitely on our list. Is there a chance at getting a spot down there this late?

We know people who got there in the middle of the week a couple of years ago and had no problem getting a parking spot at Sandia.

Wendy

Thank you Wendy. Now to see if everybody is up for a long haul down there.

I was at Cochiti Lake the other day and it was relatively empty. You can always call the camphost, but I was thinking no reservations after Oct 1, then first come first serve.

Taos is a long pull but that's what I am doing but mainly because we were here anyway and then the Taos rally after Fiesta.

There's a casino campground at San Felipe (Hollywood), so it kinda depends how close you want to be. When I was at Isleta three years ago, they did not have any stress for Balloon Fiesta, but probably because they don't take reservations.

The Sandia lot, though, is really probably the hot ticket because of how it looks down on the valley. I will probably start my photo work from there because I need some distance from the balloons for some of my shots.

Weather here has been knocked out, although warmer in ABQ, with highs in the low 70's and nights in the mid 30's. Serious balloon weather!

you got me worked up now :)
We may get nixed out of it if she can't get some extra days. A nine day haul does not seem practical.

Got to have lunch with Gary Ferguson (taoshun) today and talk about Jeeps ( we don't want to be without one next year in Moab) and aspens turning and fixing the government at the Taos Mesa Brewing Company.

All of our problems seemed small gazing across the valley at the Taos Ski Basin and the colors turning.

Good times!

We made the better decision to go short this time. We will be there, just not this year.
We'd rather have some extra days to spend in Moab and other places along the way.
All of you have a great time. We hope to meet you all soon.

We are going shorter than that :D
Redwoods this time, about half the miles.

If you weren't at the Balloon Fiesta, or even if you were, you should see this.
